Smile John Mayes 2004 "Jumbo Parlor" SOLD AGF!

SOLD AGF, PENDING PAYMENT. It will help pay for new custom John Kinnaird!!!

https://reverb.com/item/5269252-john...m-2004-natural

Please see Reverb listing above for Pics and same long winded description! Haha

John Mayes Jumbo Parlor 2004. Figured curly redwood/Madagascar Rosewood

In fantastic condition, but has been Played! A few SMALL love taps on the top, and one near the end pin. Also a few SMALL drop fills on the beautiful figured Redwood top. Back and sides are amazingly clean.

Just back from a complete inspection inside and out, complete fret level and dress, nut work, setup, and new R.Taylor wave compensated bone saddle install. All done by my pal and fave Luthier, Tim Luranc of R. Taylor fame. All systems are GO. This one is well worth the $300 of work by Tim L!

A number of AGF members have gotten guitars from me with Tim's incredible setups.

When Tim first saw this he assumed the B/S were Brazilian!!!

This one has gone around a few times now on AGF! It is a real peach, and now has had a fine restore to complete playability and perfect intonation.

SOLD AGF. HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

The following description is from a former owner:

"The setup is for a finger style player, no buzz, quite articulate… Even Bass to treble. Clean fundamentals. Long sustain, nice projection… I had thought that the redwood/mad rose combination would be a softer, more mellow sound without bite. I have been surprised both with it's unplugged volume and complexity, very pleasing indeed. This Mayes has a very soft touch, playing is truly effortless. And it has a comfortable (almost) OM body size even though it is referred to as a Jumbo Parlor."

I agree!

Specs:

Just a hair smaller than an OM

Top wood: figured curly redwood
Back and sides: Madagascar Rosewood
Entire guitar is bound in flamed maple
Headstock: Ebony face plate trimmed in flamed maple
Nut width: 1.75"
Saddle spacing: 2 3/16"
Scale length: 25.5"
Five piece laminated neck
Lower bout width: 14 15/16"
Waist: 9 3/16"
Upper bout width: 10 7/8"
Depth at tail 4 1/4"
Depth at Neck heel: 3 7/16"
Gotoh Delta 510 1 to 21 Tuners. Gold with black buttons, work perfectly!
White abalone short pattern slotted diamonds on FB.
The markers at the 12th fret are matching stick on type. Never noticed until taking pics! Haha

Grained ivoriod strap pin.
Gold Taylor end pin.
No pickup now, but endpin is drilled and ready if you choose to install your fave.

The neck is a great cross between a shallow C and a V. I have small hands and find this neck wonderful. If your hands are large this may not be a good fit.

Comes with a fully functional Canadian made TKL black 5 latch arch top case. In good condition, but has a few small scrapes and tears in the Tolux, and the strap to hold it open is torn loose on the top end.

I figure the upgrades to Madagascar Rosewood and curly Redwood would probably cost near my asking price!

Full disclosure:

A former Repair Luthier glued the Fretboard extension to the top. It was originally attached with two bolts, like a Collings or Bourgeois. Has no effect on sound or playability, both of which are spectacular! The current neck angle is excellent and there is Plenty of saddle showing if you want to lower the action. This should be NO PROBLEM for years to come, but may eventually need to be steamed off if a neck set is needed in the DISTANT future. Were it not for this I would be asking considerably more money!!!

As many here know, I take a lot of satisfaction in getting wonderful guitars back to perfect playability! Fortunately I have Tim Luranc to do any work I can not! Which is most!!! Haha...

As always, this will be turned down to C concert, headstock and strings well padded,
Swaddled inside and outside it's case, and double boxed! I consider packing guitars an art form. My theory is plan for the worst, pack like crazy, insure it up the wazoo, and pray.

Shipped USPS priority, insured by Heritage, adult signature required.

Any questions please ask.

Also, former owner discount available! I am a sucker for a nice reunion!!!

Cheers

Paul

This is just a VERY SWEET guitar. You can't find much prettier wood than figured Redwood over Madagascar Rosewood...WOW!! Nice guitar from a GREAT guy and seller.

Paul is one of the nicest guys I know and has great taste in guitars. His new build will be sweet but I'm certain he'll miss this one. The good news is that someone else will get to enjoy it!

Buy with confidence! Shouldn't last long

Default Majic Mayes Jumbo

I got to play this guitar, it was sweet. As Paul does with all his Guitars, it was sent to Tim Luranc the Master Luthier for a full massage. Maybe I will get to play it again before it sells.

Well-appointed guitar. I have a guitar I purchased from Paul set up by Tim Luranc, and consequently had my other guitar set up also.
Paul is an outstanding seller.

Smile a very special custom build here!

Paul and I have bought/sold trade guitars at least 3 times over the last few years and we have become friends, yacking on the phone every couple of months!

I bought this Mayes last summer and kept it for several months. The tone woods are so very special, front and back on this very special guitar. I only traded it, because the neck is too small for me. I have large hands and I was brought up on a 2" crossover neck. Paul has small hands and this thin/fast neck was perfect for him, but he has the J Kinnaird bug and too many guitars!

The guitar did need a setup and now it has one in spades. The three guitars I received from Paul all had the Tim Luranc setup and every one was perfect. You should try the Taylor 12-string I have. It plays like a finger-style guitar! (almost, but the setup with compensated saddle is amazing). From what I understand, this guitar received very special attention from Tim. That along with the tone woods is going to make someone very, very happy.

If you're on the fence, give Paul a call and buy this one. I highly recommend this seller, his luthier and this guitar for sure!

Smile Good to go....

Thanks Roberts!

And JD, thanks for the fine description and kind words! Same to you my friend...

My friend Rod came over a couple days ago and sat with this guitar for almost an hour. He is a WAY better flatpicker than I and gave it a great lead workout! It really shines for single string work up the neck. Tone is fat and warm but still clear and balanced! No wonder JD put up with the slim neck. Haha

I mostly play chords/arpeggios and it is wonderful for that as well.

But it must go....

Offers now considered. And partial trades with cash my way...Talk to me!
Six one 9-44 five-11eighty nine.

I love to yak about fine guitars!

Cheers

Paul

Smile BTW...

JD's 1994 Taylor 555 received a new bone Nut and an RT DOUBLE-COMPENSATED bone saddle. They make the TOPS of all 12 strings level. Amazing how much that helps on a 12 string. And Tim's TLC is the best!

JD, I am glad you kept her long enough to make the leap to a 12!

Cheers

Paul

Smile Price drop

How about a $326 price drop? Maybe this will knock someone off the fence...

Now asking only $2599 for this beauty!

Everyone have a FANTASTIC Memorial Day Weekend

Cheers

Paul, I don't need another guitar right now. But at this price, the temptation is just getting too strong! Must resist... must resist...
