TE was pretty devastated when his Maton was lost/stolen a few years ago while travelling. So he cherishes the guitar. It was eventually returned to him. So he clearly doesn't think of the guitars as "Junk" even if he said so. And of course, who's going to play drummer and percussion guy on his $30,000 hand built?

Default Guitare Vibration : acoustic guitar project on maton

Hye

Maton te is a very nice guitar.
I have been playing it for few month on a schertler amp.
It sounds good with deep bass and clarity and presence due to mid quality

here on my maton: http://youtu.be/hdA4jZeW7JE

or here in other style : http://youtu.be/0BTzrLzkpdY

Please feedback if you like

I'm surprised so many people here have negative things to say about the Maton guitars they've played. I purchased an 808 earlier this year (the Messiah/EIR version) and can't put the thing down. I love my two high-end Martins but honestly I've been playing my Maton about 95% of the time. Granted, I've been playing fingerstlye tunes almost exclusively since, but there is just something really special about the tone and playability of my little Maton. A couple other artists to check out who play Maton's are Joe Robinson and Gareth Pearson. I was lured into the land of Maton by listening to a lot of Gareth's youtube vids, the guitar just sounds phenomenal to me. I'm completely fine with the rather hefty price I paid for mine, it was worth every penny and then some.

nothing wrong with maton guitars, they are a well made instrument that will outlast most other brands, made tough, for tough aussie men and women and aussie conditions
acoustically perhaps not the finest sounding instrument , but down here they are the guitar of choice for most gigging musicians.

I love my 13 yo cedar top maton, darker tones and all. I do love my brighter sika Phoenix as well.. I guess it depends on the mood of the tune. Being aussie though, as matonman said, probably the most commonly played acoustic by our musicians. Tough as nails, built to last and get better with age..

I really enjoyed that review Jarvis, it looks as though you get to play with plenty of fine instruments, lucky lad..

Disclaimer for my post above, my playing doesn't do the maton any justice, i am fortunate to know a couple of professional musicians who have played it and well, i now know it's potential :-)

I can actually see the lure of a Maton in Aussie conditions, as mentioned above, I can also see the lure for those looking to emulate Tommy E in terms of the percussive aggrivated assualt it will be subjected to. I suppose to bash the guitars about night after night you would be looking to get something tough, solid and well able to handle a severe kicking every night. I certainly wouldn't be doing that on a TV SJ-200 or a Martin 0-28VS.

As many have said he cares little for the acoustic tone of this model and it's primary use is for the live work and for standing up to the enthusiastic voilence that entertains us so much. In this respect it makes good sense for the box to be a tightly constructed guitar with heavy bracing etc.. almost like an electric guitar I suppose.

Either way he's an incredible player who gets all manner of delights out of that guitar no matter how it sounds unplugged. All I can say (again) is that when I tried one it really didn't feel or sound like a guitar of that kind of pricetag.
