Default Rainsong FT - how does the finish wear?

I'm considering a Rainsong but am having an issue deciding which finish. I generally like matte finishes, but the concern I have is how easily they can get shiny spots from playing wear.

Can people that own a FT Rainsong comment on how durable the finish is?

Thanks!

For me the Fine Texture is too rough, but it is much tougher than the typical satin finish on a wooden guitar. Skin oil will shine it up a bit, which you can clean off, but cleaning is a little more work due to the texture. The attached pictures shows what 9 months daily practice plus several monthly gigs of hard play might do to your guitar. Jon

Interesting. The one thing I don't like about matte finishes is that they can be difficult to keep up cosmetically, but that doesn't look bad at all.

Thank you!

One of the things I like about my FT finish S-OM1100N2 is not worrying about the finish. I found that a pickguard helps with rubbing against the finish while strumming...

The reason that I'm asking is that I want to order one of Ted's LE Shorties and can't decide on the finish. This is a one-time shot for me so I want it to be right. When I think Rainsong I think gloss, so I'm leaning that way.

You would have to play 24/7 with as many guitars as you have.

HeavyDuty,

I had several conversations with Ted about this. The guy is GREAT to talk to and a joy to do business with. I wrestled thru the same decision. All the Rainsongs I have played have been gloss finish and even the ones that have been around A LONG time still have a pristine finish.

I do generally prefer satin finishes. That said... based upon my previous experience with Rainsong gloss and largely upon Ted's recommendation... I order my LE Shorty in gloss with electronics.

Keep us posted.

Mine is shining up just a touch on the lower bout where my arm lies, but it is shining up much more noticeably on the neck at the first position. Obviously I need to expand beyond the third fret...

I ended up going with the high gloss finish. Thanks, gang!

i've originally ordered the satin based on what I've read, heard, and price difference. However after seeing both finishes in person, I've decided to go with the gloss because I liked the way it looked and how it shows the graphic better and how it feels in my hands. Purely cosmetic. However, I did think the satin sounded a little but better though. So I didn't go the practical route, it's all about vanity because I can't play like you guys, yet =)
