Well, technically in the case of the neck joint the dovetail is really a specialized mortise and tenon joint. I used to build doors with a split tenon and through mortise, whwre the motise was ramped. Wedges were then fitted to the slots in the tenon effectively locking it in place as a dovetail, but without the short grain issues. Unfortunately it's irreversible.
Kerfing bothers me... But how much worse is it really than roofing, siding, plumbing? Or how about jointer? Too many people mistakenly call the machine a joiner. But really in the end does it matter? All we can do is politely point out the correct term without being a prick about it! :-)

I was dumbfounded when I started reading Internet message boards. It never occurred to me that anyone over diaper age did not know that 'loose' rhymes with 'goose'. If you know how to pronounce the word properly, you are not likely to misuse it when writing.
'Advise' is a verb that rhymes with 'rise'. 'Advice' is a noun that rhymes with 'rice'. How hard can that be?
