Default guitar binding

I just was on ebay just look for price on abalone for my future projects (travel size carbon fibre guitar) as this will be guitar for me I'm was thinking about making binding from about 2mm from edge and 2mm thick around whole guitar (the top and nec).

But the abalone has various thickness so how could I send it to same one can I use sanding paper...?

I also found binding from celluloid but I believe those ones would not be best for neck inlay 2mm from edge and 2mm thick...?

Is there is other material which is good for this purpose... But please note wood as guitar must be "weather proof "

Thank you

Attach the abalone with doublesided tape to a board and run it through a thickness sander to get all the pieces the same thickness.
