Default Lutherie tools

Hey there everyone. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I figured it was worth a shot. I'm looking to get ahold of old, but serviceable, tools as well as wood/scraps.

My list of power and hand tools that I would like to fill:

power tools
band saw
table saw
drill press w/sanding drums
bench sander (horizontal variety preferred)
planer
a good quality router and router table

hand tools
a good quality hand plane
CLAMPS!
paring chisels
fret saw
fret puller
rasps (nicholson #49 & #50)
files
jeweler's saw

miscellaneous
abalone
spalted woods (I find them interesting for inlay work)
burls

Thanks for reading.

Some of the things on your list are quite regional. I would buy a band saw local... Craigslist is your best bet. Join OLF (Official Luthiers Forum) and advertise your wants there. I bought out a local fully equipped Luthier with all most all of the tools and 50 sets of wood! For pennies on the dollar. I found him on the OLF.
I have found eBay to be too heavily bid on cool old tools
BTW wear face protection. Especially when cutting Spalted woods. Spalt is mold.
What area are you in?

I go to their website and I am a registered member but cannot access the Classified and found this in my user group status page.

Hmmmm. I am a member but have not been there in a while. Seems the main forum I hang out at keeps sub dividing categories and making it time consuming to go from place to place.

I am in Vacaville, CA. It's right between Sacramento and San Francisco, on I-80.

Hey this is a totally random question, but have you or anyone else reading this thread ever used something completely unconventional for a rosette or other inlay? I'm considering nutmeg. But would I have trouble working with something like this, as far as oil in the nut?

Nutmeg will shrink quite a bit as it dries out.

I was going to make some Damascus steel to use, but I think it would add more weight than I want it to.

If you're going for that sort of look, a good metal shop can give the effect on a piece of aluminum. It won't be Damascus, but to the average Joe, it'll have the same visual effect. And it'll be a lot lighter than steel.
