I've never put one together totally on my own. I'll usually do some of the work and then pass it off to my tech guy to finish it off, but in this case, I handed the tech guy a body, a neck, and a bunch of parts. A JM is a bit more complicated than a strat or a tele. If I'd have tried to put it all together, my guy would have been spending a lot of time fixing my mistakes.

LOL. I'm sure it would be the same or worse if I tried it. Looks really nice.

Thanks. I just realized I didn't answer part of your question.

I've done two guitars with both Warmoth bodies and necks. One is the jazzmaster and the other is a telecaster. The tele has Tonerider TRT2 Hot Classic pups.

I've got a strat that has a Warmoth neck and a Xaviere body with Klein Jazz Cat pups.

I've got Fender MIM strat with Klein 1962 Epic Series Strat pups. I bought that one used because it has scalloped frets above the 12th and I was intrigued by it. Turned out the scallops weren't factory; it was a homemade job. But whoever did it didn't do a terrible job of it.

At some point I'd like to put together another tele with Klein '61 pups or maybe his '67 set ...but that's down the road a bit because I have a few acoustic instruments in the works right now.

The nice thing about doing it this way is you get what you actually want in the end without having to make concessions or settle for something a little different. My full Warmoth tele and jazzmaster will stand up to anything Fender is putting out in the $1500-2000 range, imo.

And it can be cost effective if you're patient. Warmoth always has "in stock" necks and bodies that are substantially cheaper than custom-ordered stuff. My tele only cost me about a grand even with the tech bill. The JM about $1200.

That's my Warmoth tele on the left. The black tele is a work in progress. It's a cheap Xaviere into which I installed "Walk of Life" pickups from some maker in Germany. It sounds great but I need to get a better neck on that guitar. Just waiting from something to catch my eye over at Warmoth.
