This seems to explain my board. 3 OD pedals of distinctly different types (BB-1, Big Muff Pi, and a Fuzz Face, all clones), a chorus, a tremolo, and a Dynacomp. Nothing modern or fancy, but I can get a sound I like with minimal fuss. There is a ton of offerings out there, so I tend to go with old designs that are known to work well.

BTW, A Tube Screamer would fit in the soft clipper category of that taxonomy.

I pulled out my old Roland VG-8 modeler, and swear it still sounds better than the VG-88 and VG-99. Roland modeled a couple overdrive pedals, and I easy control the amount of gain with an external foot pedal.
