For Sale: 1967 Martin D-18 Shadetop SOLD

Among the most desirable vintage post-war Martins, here’s a very rare 1967 Martin D-18 with an extremely rare shadetop finish. Martin stopped documenting shadetops after 1964 but there are a handful out there. Serial number dates this one to the Spring of 1967. It is in original condition, with original small maple bridge plate and bracing. Original BRW bridge and fingerboard. Original frets in good condition. Original Grover tuners. ‘67 was the year Martin switched to a black pickguard and binding.

The thin sunburst finish appears to be original. Appropriate checking and wear consistent with 1960‘s lacquer. There is some touch-up on the top on either side of the fretboard, as well as some filler around the soundhole. There are 4 repaired cracks (with small diamond cleats) in the top on the lower treble bout, all through the finish. While I can’t verify the originality of the finish with a certainty, if it is a refin it is very old and likely factory.

Action is perfect at 3/32”, neck is straight, and it sounds like a dream. Best postwar D-18 I’ve had. Ships in non-original HSC.
