Martin guitar ... 1833 ?
Stumbled on this video on youtube this morning.
Any thoughts as to real date and model?

Ha! Of course as you are alluding to, Martin was established in 1833.
I'll let the knowledgable Martin guys date the guitar. It does still sing nicely though, |

Looks like a size 2. Not convinced its from 1833. Looks more like 1850's to 1870's production.

CF Martin has an 1834 guitar that is believed to be the oldest surviving example . It resides in their museum but still comes out to play from time to time .
I have played it twice , both times while in the care of Dick Boak . Should this actually be an earlier survivor , I have no doubt that the company would want to inspect, verify and document it . Oh yeah , the 1834 is spruce over maple and sounds absolutely wonderful . I forget the size , but it is a Terz sizing , possibly a 4 or 5 . |
