New Song Idea -- Do I Need another Chord Progression?
Or do I have enough here? My gut tells me I need a chorus, but then again maybe it's built in?
You can listen to the song as currently constituted here -- Instrumental only https://soundcloud.com/karlpk/bs-song-in-progress Capo 3rd fret With some embellishments and trills, the verse is basically G Emin7 (F#) G Emin7 (F#) G Emin7 Cadd9 Dsus, Cadd9, Dsus, Cadd9 D Walk down to G, then repeat There will be two verses, but for purpose of illustration, I just have one verse progression here At 1:09, I have the Bridge, where I move from the D in a C B walkdown to Amin Emin Amin C G Amin Emin C D, then walk down C, B, back to G in the main progression... At that point in this illustration I end, but that's how I would end the actual song I dunno, maybe this is enough, but I feel as though I need a real separate chorus, or that maybe the bridge as constituted should be the chorus and I need a new bridge. Anyway, all ideas are welcome. |

Nice changes, I think it's enough...for now. Of course, the melody along along with the lyrics might dictate some overall changes.

I agree with Bern. The melody and lyrics will define the verses and chorus rather than the progression. For example, the progression in Bob Dylan's song "Knockin on Heaven's Door" never changes but there is clearly verses and chorus. Similarly in Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind" the same chord progression is used in the verse, chorus and bridge. Write a melody and see where it takes you!
