A Celtic Fingerstyle Medely
A celtic-y, fingerstyle medley. DADGAD (Capo II)
This medley of tunes is classically what I first play when I tune to DADGAD. I've never recorded it but did the other day — a bit scratchy but you get the idea. The tunes: Prelude: A simple introductory tune knocked up to get the fingers going. Jack Hazeldean: A traditional tune found both in Scotland and in NW Ireland. The Banks of the Bann/Lord of All Hopefulness: Another traditional tune which has been used for the hymn Lord of my Hopefulness — for some reason it is the hymn I hear when I play this. When A Knight Won his Spurs: this is a gorgeous traditional tune which was originally collected in Somerset. A hymn lyric was added by Jan Struther (Songs of Praise hymn book 1931). These tunes have been around for a while although my inspiration here comes from Martin Simpson who recorded the last three. Simpson recorded Jack Hazeldene and Banks of the Bann in Dropped D tuning. I first saw these two strung together in a medley by Simpson when playing live. When A Knight Won his Spurs was recorded by Simpson in C sus 2 sus 9 tuning (CGCFCD)
