Hi, does anybody know what kind of finish was used on a mid-60's Mark 1?

My wife got one from her father and we are rehabbing it.

It sounds wonderful.

thanks,

Neal

I just bought a 69 Mark I.

I bought a 66 Mark IV pearwood brand new and played it for decades. Then I had a bad reaction to statin drugs and couldn't handle the 2" neck of a classical any more, so I sold it. Now I'm on a different drug and the hand problem is gone. I missed my MarK IV and even tried to buy it back, but it had been sold again so I don't know where it ended up. But I recently found this Mark I and I'm very happy with it.

Just a guess, but I think these were finished in nitro. Certainly looks like it.

Hi, bobcat, that Guild Mark looks just like my wife's guitar. It's at the shop now to fix a few little cracks and we need a new case for it.

Anybody out there know if the Guild Marks will fit in a standard classical case? There's a tweed wooden case on "sale" at Musician's Friend for about $60 that she likes but I'm not sure if the dimensions of all classical or nylon string guitars are the same.

I'm a steel-string guy myself so this is new territory for me.

thanks,

Neal

Default 1971 Guild Mark 1

I've got a real nice Guild Mark 1 that I'm going to post up on eBay shortly. Its a 1971 I believe (#54922). Very good condition. The tuners have been replaced - the old ones were damaged at some point when the adjustment screws were stripped. The mahogany is gorgeous. I recently got a Taylor nylon string and I'm out of guitar stand room so this one has to go.

Cool Mark II for sale on EBay

There is a nice looking Mark II, 1982 for sale now on EvilBay...$699, pics look in fair shape.
I have no association with it, but saw this post about Marks

Have not seen many comments about the Mark II?

From what little I hear about the Marks...

Mark 1 was entry level
Mark II was same as 1 with spruce top and body bindings
Mark III constructed with Peruvian mahog on back/side, highly sought after
Mark IV
Mark V featured wood options like flamed pear (on 4) and rosewood on V.

The Mark IV also had pearwood as an option.

It's hard to say, as case dimensions can vary even with the "standard" name attached. The standard hard case I bought for my Mark I turned out to be a little large, but the Protege case that came with my Cordoba Fusion is a standard classical size, and it fits the Mark like a glove.

Default Guild Mark replacement case / Shipping info

Purchased an upper end Mark the other day. It is a thousand miles away and I need to ship it to myself. It only has a chipboard case.

Any advise here on what to do? I checked out the Protege by HumiCase as suggested in the last post. Looks like a good alternate to the original plush-lined Guild case.

Should I buy the Protege and have it shipped in that, or will the chipboard case inside a cardboard guitar carton (with plenty of foam padding) suffice? Also, which of the usual suspects (UPS, FedEx, &c) is best at getting these delivered without damage? I've never shipped a guitar before.

Thanks!

Cool

For a BEATER guitar, I got a Guild Mark II.
It has hung in with me over many other models, but I keep putting new strings on it when necessary and find it hard to part with it.
I put an ad in Craigslist, got a few offers, but just could not pull the trigger.
They are like old friends...good to have around!

In particular, I'd love to try a Mark IV with the pearwood. I played a D-44 (obviously much different beast!) and I thought the pearwood was very interesting. But I see no Mark 4 guitars anywhere.

Thanks,
hey Chuck, don't know if you're still looking for one but I just so happen to have a 75 Guild Mark IV for sale if you're still interested!
