Do you own a famous/known guitar?
I see lots of videos with guitars, from the past, in performances, and showcased for sale etc. Either long gone or sold long ago. Then I wonder who owns them now, is it some of the members here?
Do you have a guitar that was owned or played by someone famous, shown at a lucrative shop for sale and that video remains for ever? So, somewhat famous by association or YouTube? My 000-28 came from a swanky recording studio but I never could get any names/details from the seller, I wonder if it was played on something we’ve all heard many times. |

I think this counts, I picked this up several weeks ago from the original owner. According to the video Rhonda Vincent also played this on another video.

I owned Chris Rea's Danelectro Convertible (traded a Guild D25 for it) which was used to record slide on his album Water Sign.
Gave it to my daughter who promptly sold it for nothing... |

Yes, my recently purchased Huss & Dalton Custom T-0014 was once owned by Albert Lee and used in several concerts around 2017

I have bought some celeb-owned stuff a few times over the years when Reverb does the "mike cambell" store or the "Ray Lamontagne" store, etc.
A more interesting story is there was a late 70s strat at Willie's in St. Paul several years ago (2016 to be exact). I played it on Friday and really liked it. That vintage is known to be super heavy more of a rocker than a lot of strats, this one wasn't too heavy and sounded great. I wanted to buy it and would have on the spot, but was headed to a meeting. I figured I'd go think about it a minute and come back Monday if I had to have it cuz I was going to be back in that area. I woke up the next day certain I was gonna go buy it. That night, I went to see Ryan Adams play a concert and a few songs in, he comes out playing THAT EXACT STRAT. He either tweeted or maybe even said at the show that he and the band had gone to Willie's and bought a buncha stuff and that was one of them. So I obviously didn't get it. |

Not guitars, but I do have a dulcimer made by Don Neuhauser for Bonnie Russell, plus instruments from the Glen family, the Presnells, I.D.Stamper and a couple of other old-time players. And I have one of Frank Proffitt Jr banjos. He would make them, play them at gigs and then sometimes sell them to anyone who asked him at a gig. I traded for it (plus a couple of other old instruments) for one of my reso guitars from a guy who bought it in the US.
I'm hoping to pass on my full collection of historically significant mountain dulcimers to a player/collector in the UK very soon. I have displayed them and ran a workshop about them at the American Museum in Bath.

I'm learning to flatpick and fingerpick guitar to accompany songs. I've played and studied traditional noter/drone mountain dulcimer for many years. And I used to play dobro in a bluegrass band. |

Both of my current guitars were previously owned by Mark Stone.

My 1933 Gibson mandolin once belonged to legendary fiddler Scotty Stoneman.
Chris Thile tried to steal it. Just kidding, but he did like it! |

Though I m the original owner, before they were delivered. my Baritone and my 12 string were played by respectively by Jackson Brown and Gordon Bok.
Many well-known musicians have played some of mine, but after I got them.

I owned the same instrument before Mycroft got it, and it’s true, it was once owned, savaged and ravaged by Don Ross.
Before that, Jackson Browne played my baritone guitar at builder Roy McAlister’s shop and tried to get Roy to sell it to him. When that didn’t work, he had Roy call me to see if I would loan it to him for a record he was working on. Nope…. Wade Hampton Miller |

As if the guitar isn't mojo enough by itself: I have a Scott Walker electric that was a prototype and collaboration between Scott, Steve Kimmock and Jason Lollar (the pickups). Steve Kimmock (Zero, Phil & Friends, The Other Ones, Steve Kimmock Band, etc.) owned it for a spell and also played live with it. I believe some switches and a new pickguard were installed at a later date than what is shown in the video below...

My brother has a Tak that Daevid Allen used to own and is photographed with onstage.
Waddya mean "Who's Daevid Allen?" ?! The erstwhile leader of the great British psychedelic band Gong? Ring any bells? No? I give up! |
