12 String Solid Body Ovation
Has anyone seen or played this model Ovation?
A friend of mine has it but doesn't know much history on it. We've both tried our google skills to no avail. Long time reader first time poster. Awesome site! |

Those were made in the late 60's early 70's. They made an electric 6 string, that, if memory serves, Glen Cambell, Bobby Goldsboro and Dan Fogelberg played for a short time. The 6 strings were pretty common. The 12 strings I would think are pretty rare. I owned one for a short while, didn't care for it and traded it in on some unremembered thing. I do remember the neck as feeling like a maddox handle.
I used one of their electric basses for a couple years as a backup. Same color as your 12. It was an improvement over the Gibson EBO it replaced. But not much. Built like a truck. I remember it as being very heavy. I gave it to a student many years ago. I did not do him a favor for doing so. Sorry I can't tell you more. Lots of water has rolled by. RD |

What do you think would be a good price for a well kept version? |

Go over to "Ovation fan club" those guys can tell, post questions in forum. They also have a selling area you could search. Bottom line Ovation electrics I don't think command a high collector price.

As an old Ovation player and enthusiast, I have to say that is pretty cool.

I was able to play it tonight. It sounded cool through the little crate amp. The house PA speaker at Church was horrible with it though. Didn't have much to really push it. It is missing a G string right now. But I like the feel of the neck. It feels a bit thinner than my Seagull 12 String. It is a bit heavy but not uncofortable. And I really like the color of the body and neck. It has had some work on the electronics I think and some of the switches don't match. One is brass the other is silver. It was offered at a 175. I think I will pick it up.
