So, here in the wee small hours of the morning, Johnson in hand (12 string)
I'm going back thru the Broke Down Engine lesson from the E pack. Hope to be able to sing and play it with some determined effort in two weeks.

I should be back from Europe around then. I'll check in to see how you're doing.

Post having fun

I have the Ebox set and at this point I am plucking the blues but am enjoying this new adventure. Not at all talented with the guitar but I enjoy trying to play.
Toby: Thanks for sharing your talent, acoustic blues is a new adventure for me.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

I'm working on the first couple in the D pack. Stack-O-Lee is not too bad but I'm tripping up getting from the intro to the main tune in Big Road Blues.

Question on the e pack, Lightning Hopkins slow blues;
for parts of it, the dead bass drops out on some of the licks. I think it could be done with the bass, is it this way cuz thats the way he did it? Or, is there some other purpose to dropping off the dead bass during these licks?
Thanks

You have to listen to that multiple times in order to get the feel of it. The 6th string is played on the downbeat.

Answering this in my hotel room in France.

I drop it out by choice and not because Hopkins may have or may have not played it that way. Follow the tab for now and then try to come up with your own variations.

From my hotel suite in France.

Toby
I have a question about guitar week in Swannanoa. For the classes that you teach how much material is covered during the course of the week?

That depends on the course. Each day I'll be adding more material as the week progresses.

Hi Toby,
I was watching the video for "Cocaine" and noticed your guitar is tuned differently. In order to play along, what should I tune to?
