Default Indy 500, What a Finish!!

Guess I won't spoil it for those recording it but what a great finish for the 100th Indy 500. Talk about rolling the dice.

That's for sure! Totally unexpected. Great race!

I was a stupid finish. Three guys had been battling it out all afternoon, and the eventual winner is someone whose name hadn't been mentioned all day and who won by saving fuel. Exciting.

Exactly, he could very easily have run dry coming out of 4 and finished 5th. That's the excitement, they made the big bet and won big. They guys battling all afternoon could have come in early. like 20 to go, and not been at risk from a roll the dice on an economy run. I feel worst for Munoz, talk about being a perennial bridesmaid.

One of the best races in the last 2 years.

Didn't hold a candle to the F1 race at Monaco, I was amazed at the speed of an F1 pitstop...

One car crossing the finish line leaps ahead of the next cars is kinda boring.

Agreed. I was rooting for my countryman Hinch but you have to respect how Rossi was able to take a gamble and save fuel for the win.

I thought it was a good 500. Nice to see the kid win.

I was rooting for Marco Andretti. The family curse lives on. Some day...

His dad is part owner of the winner's team. I wouldn't mind being cursed with a million or so.

Yep, first and second place, but you know what I meant.

Rossi wasn't part of the race narrative at all. I just paged back thru the race, and he ran in the middle of the pack most of the day. The announcers barely mentioned him until there there 4 laps to go, and he took the lead. So, from a casual fan standpoint, a mystery man pops up out of nowhere at the last minute and wins the race. There wasn't any drama at all. It was a deus ex machina ending.

That's the point. He had little experience on ovals, had a patched together crew, an under financed budget. Still, they overcame all that by staying competitive for 195 laps and used their brain to overcome all their deficits to beat teams who did have all the advantages.

More amazing to me was all the teams that knew they would have to stop and waited until 9 to go to come in. They made no allowance for someone betting the farm on making it without a stop. Had they come in with 20 to go, several could have caught and passed Rossi.

What a great finish! How cool is that! It goes to show you that it's not all about speed. ... Well, it IS about average speed over 200 laps.

Yeah...except when you tell your driver to come in for tires and then don't have them ready when he arrives. Great pit stop....

A good race with a totally unexpected ending.
