Default Augusta GA guitar tech

I just found out I will be moving from Hawaii (Not by my choice) to Augusta GA. Well as many of you recall I had bought a new nut and saddle from Bob Colossi and new Gotoh 510 delta tuners for the koa guitar my wife bought me for fathers day. Well with the up coming move I have put off the install and set up until I get to Augusta. Any recommendations on a good guitar tech in the area as well as any good guitar shops

Kris

I'm curious to know as well. That is closer to where I go to school than here at home.

At home (about 40 minutes from Atlanta) there are a few luthiers. There are some guitar stores in Atlanta, a guitar center and luthier next to each other in my area, and another luthier right up the road (although I haven't been there yet).

But these are all a bit of a drive from Augusta - there is bound to be something closer. Augusta is a good size.

Stay in Hawaii!!! Augusta has music stores, but not guitar shops. Brian Hoyt would be my suggestion, he works out of his house and is quite good. His number is 706-863-2546. He repaired my Martin tenor and I was quite pleased with his work.

Trust me I tried to get the Army to let me stay here in Hawaii even if it meant deploying for the 5th time on October but was told sorry bud your going to be an instructor at the school maybe you can go back to Hawaii in 3 years. So this guy you mention he is in the Augusta area if so I will give him a call when I hit town

I do recall there is a new swap meet outside the gate of Ft Gordon and theres a guy in there that sold me my very first guitar a Alpine I think it was he was mainly a electric tech but I will ask him since he also gives lessons and was going to get my daughter set up with him. Wish I still had his card

If you are willing to drive just a little, there is a fantastic luthier just outside of Savannah. He's a little west of I-95. Randy Woods, he was good enough for Elvis and Clapton. He's also a very nice guy and easy to deal with.

Why not take your guitar to Bob Colosi himself? St. Mary's is not exactly close to Augusta, but it's a LOT closer than where you are now. Plus, you'll have opportunity to see some of the Georgia coastline, and meet a great guy. A win-win!

I used to, but the rest of the business has become so time consuming that all of my in-shop work now goes to Master Luthier Ron Griffin (www.griffinguitars.com). He is located in Waycross, GA, which is about a 3 hr. drive from Augusta.

I must have missed something. Brian Hoyt is in Augusta. He is a piano tuner and guitar tech. I do know that a lot of the local "pros" get him to do their work. I'm getting ready to let him set up my Telecaster.
