The Aqualung ,I guess....made by an old wino in a back alley. I've never had much luck with those and have finally given up.

Are you serious or joking? What brands are made in North Korea?

I never try Gibsons or Guilds, not because of the brand but because of the skinny necks. I need a minimum of 1-7/8" at the nut and neither of those makers comes close to that to my knowledge. A lot of others don't either but I've wanted to try a Gibson and Guild. Just couldn't find one I would consider. Don't look anymore.

In the interest of complete disclosure (LOL) I never look at electric guitars either but that has nothing to do with brands.

Seagull. Sorry, but I just cannot stand to look at those headstocks.

I will play almost anything. I will definitely play Gibsons. Not playing a Gibson sounds crazy to me. I prefer Taylors to Martins but I still play all the Martins I get the chance to. They are great guitars just like Gibsons.

One guitar I tend to look over (though I have played plenty, just wouldn't buy) is Luna. I dislike the head stock. I have played some good ones too but they are just ugly to me and I need to think guitars look good too.

I'm not brand-loyal and will look at any brand of guitar, but tend to not have any interest in Taylor or Gallagher. It's not that I won't even look at them... it's just that over the years I've tried to find one I like and has reached the point I'll walk by those two brands more often than not.

I was a Gibson snob for most of my 45+ year playing career, then recently ran into a particularly good J-35 I couldn't pass up. Excellent guitar and I ended up selling my D-41 since the J-35 suits my needs better.

As has been brought up, it's all a personal thing.

Completely avoid?
Anything from WalMart or JC Penneys.
But there are a couple of brands I tend to just not play.

Here's a few little truths.
1. My biases are my own. My reasons for them are either very smart, or just plain ridiculous. I recognize and embrace that as fact.

2. As I get older, I try to avoid ugly confrontation. And I realize you might like the very guitar I hate. And just because I feel your taste is all in your mouth, calling you out is not going make you happy.

3. If we happen to find ourselves in the store together...when/if you ask my opinion, I'm going to try not to hate on any guitar you pick.
If you ask my advice, I'll steer you to what I like. But I'll leave you to your own decision.

4. The reason different companies thrive has a great deal to do with us not all liking the same thing.

5. It's really easy to denigrate someone else's choice. It's harder to congratulate them and keep moving forward on our own path.
Let's practice doing the harder thing.

As far as new guitars I routinely see in stores...

Dean/Luna/Mitchell/Seagull - headstock
Alvarez - bridge
Ovation - bowl back
Rogue - materials

No, not a brand.
Size? Yes.
Every small bodied guitar I've played has left me scratching my head. Where did the sound/tone go? How do people play these? I don't get it.
Maybe it's just my playing style. 'It's not you, it's me'
I still try them out when I see them and I still put them back on the rack.

I used to think that I really hated Gibsons. Then someone handed me a 1936 L-00. Simply outstanding. Sounded absolutely nothing like I expect Gibsons to sound.

So I guess I am saying you never know, and you should try anyway.

I'll give any guitar a chance and buy the one that sounds best to me. I don't even care if it's ugly.

I'll also buy a guitar regardless of where it's made. I figure employee's of Chinese guitar companies have to eat too, same as employees of Martin do. They don't set the political policies in their country. They are just trying to make a living the same as me, or even Gasworker.
