Default Bourgeois, Santa Cruz, Huss Dalton, etc. (Canada)

Looking for a guitar north of the border, open to trying something new along the lines indicated in the title.

Much of what you are interested in from these builders will have at least some rosewood on it, presenting complications for shipping from the US.

I sold a guitar with rosewood back and sides recently to a gentleman in Canada, and he needed to enter the US, retrieve the guitar from a Fed Ex shop in Detroit, and drive it across the border as his personal property.

Current CITES restrictions on exporting of items containing any species of rosewood prevented me from shipping it to his home in Canada without lengthy delay and approval from the US Fish and Wildlife Service (or the Canadian equivalent).

Yeah, I'd be looking for something from someone in Canada to avoid import issues.

Besides the quality of the builder what specs are you looking for?

Need at least a 1 23/32 or 1 3/4 nut width, prefer an OM/Concert style but open to larger guitars as well. Not into parlors and the like. I like to try different woods so not specifying there.

Nothing prevents driving across and buying it though. Not a big deal beyond logistics.

Have a look at the Twelfth Fret on Danforth near Woodbine in Toronto. They usually have a good selection of high-end guitars. 12fret.com

Thanks everyone, still looking. A Canadian build might be nice as well - Northwood, etc.

Another Canuk here. Have a Huss & Dalton, had a Santa Cruz.
Picked up a Morgan [built in Van- had apprenticed with Larrivee] concert in
walnut. Runs with the best of them. Note: Basically only Rosewoods are CITES protected.
Challenge, however, is selling a Canadian made in U.S. They don't know these brands so interest is low.
In the case of Morgan, one person [U.S.seller] had a miserable time as there is another "Morgan",in U.S. a maker of cheaper line guitars.
