The next picture shows a test fitting of the neck:
[IMG][/IMG] And last checking neck alignment as the bridge and neck are test fitted. Yes, we went with the Amazon Rosewood bridge. Looks nice I think: [IMG][/IMG]

Heading to Michigan
The body is finished and is heading to Tony in Michigan for finish. Of course, very anxious to see results from that. The neck will be finished in house in a satin finish. There will be some continued work on the fretboard as we wait. I will continue to post those pics as I get them...

If you have been following this build thread, first, thank you. I am glad you are here and hopefully can appreciate the fantastic guitars that Steve and Ryan build. They are great guys and the guitars have an amazing sound. Also, if you have been here, you know I have alluded to a theme for this guitar, but have not given much away.
I normally don't want to do too much in terms of a theme as it narrows the appeal if one were to sell, but since I will never sell any Kinnairds, I decided to make this one special to me. My mother's side of the family is Scottish. Her father was 100% so I recently traced our lineage back to Scotland on both my Grandfather's mother and father's side back to about 1760's. They never married outside of Scotland so that lineage was pretty straight forward. I was very impressed by the record keeping in Scotland to say the least. That part of my family always embraced their Scottish roots so as far as I thought as a youngster we were all 100% Scottish. Lately my lovely Kathy had gotten me into the Outlander books and TV series furthering my interest in Scottish history with that story being based roughly in the 1740's. To add more to this, I believe Steve has a bit of Scotland in his history as well...so the fretboard inlays will reflect this heritage. Steve and I went back and forth quite a bit with designs and themes and where they may best fit on the fretboard etc. Here is the start of that work...the Scottish thistle, I believe it to be the national flower of Scotland and represents their tough spirit and never say never attitudes. It is often represented stylistically as Steve has drawn it. It will be MOP with engraving and ink work for color. He is a photo of Steve working on some engraving and a look at what will be going at the 5th fret. We have something really cool planned for the 12th fret as well and a surprise at the end....that is a clue btw. 5th fret inlay just laying on fretboard for now:

That's a beautiful inlay on a gorgeous instrument! I've not been very active here, as I've been too busy practicing! Plus, this forum can be dangerous to our finances . Tom- you are putting together a wonderful collection of guitars! I can't wait to hear how this one sounds.... The deep body and the woods are going to be great!
I hope the time passes quickly while you're "waiting for the paint to dry." beth |

Sweet!
Very cool theme and execution thus far.
Should we expect some bagpipes somewhere in the mix?!

This is fun
I just finished a bowl of oatmeal… I suppose it would be hard to tell in an inlay that it was steel cut oats. My goodness, do they take a long time to chew! These Scots know how to maximize a bowl of oatmeal.
And the Kinnairds know how to maximize a fine guitar!!! Beautiful axe, and the tone will floor folks at twenty paces I am sure. Cheers Paul

Nice 5th fret inlay guys. Is the color ink sprayed or painted with a brush?
Looks really nice.

Thanks Dennis, I don't know the answer, but I am sure Steve or Ryan will pipe in. All I know it is hand engraved as see above and ink is supplying the color, but I am not sure how that ink is being applied...
