Default Good pop songs to play on a dreadnought

Hi everyone, I own a 410ce Spring 2010 LTD and am a fan of 90s pop-rock (Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty, etc). Not really into bluegrass.

Just wondering what songs are best brought out by the DN?

Unfortunately I didn't know much about body shapes before I brought my guitar so got the DN although GC or GA would have perhaps been better for the style of music I play (facebook.com/blackbeautymusic). I later tried them and felt like they sounded better too.

However, living in NZ it's not that easy to resell or trade, so I'm wanting to make the best out of it for now.

Can someone please recommend some good songs to play on a DN? Thanks.

you should check out Boyce Avenue on youtube.... they have a ton of songs on there, lots of 90s stuff as well as some new stuff and they are very good and play Taylors as well... some of their tabs are available online as well if you want to learn the songs the same way they play some of them

Ha, found them on BalconyTV - they have them here in Auckland too... Looks like they both play GAs - great songs though!

Hey Ruby,

Sounds like you've got a great guitar. Ovangkol, right? That's a fun guitar. You can play anything on that dread. You won't be limited by needing a song made for that type of guitar. Play away!

Cheers, it's a walnut:

I'm not so much trying to limit what I play, I just want to find some songs that would sound great on it (i.e. songs that DNs are specifically made for) and artists that use a X10 Taylor and have it sound good on their songs. For example, I think the song Crash Into Me by Dave Matthews sounds great on an 814 (second song):

Once you play it on a dreadnaught isn't it (by default) either bluegrass or pop!

Ruby G,

Oh, I'm sorry... walnut. That's even better... a very rich-sounding tonewood. I think you'll love that guitar.

Enjoy!

You mentioned the Goo Goo Dolls...while they're fun to play be prepared to tune your guitar to crazy tunings...

Go for some good strumming songs. "Wonderwall" comes to mind.

Goo goo, matchbox, etc:

Iris, Name, Better Days, Slide, Wonderwall, Give a Little Bit (classic strummer song!), 3AM (never learned this one, but it's on my to-do list), Good Riddance ...just off the top of my head.

I never think "body shape dependent" songs, personally, but these are typical good ones from that era

Default Johnny Cash

Don't rule out some of his last recordings, they contain many stripped down covers of things like Depeche Mode, Trent Reznor, etc. and most are just his voice and a Martin Dread.
