Any step-by-step on how to get Soundcloud embedding to work?

Posted a Soundcloud clip for the first time in the "Gordon Lightfoot" thread the other day. I can see that some Soundcloud postings are just hyperlinks (like mine), but others show the embedded Soundcloud player.

What's the trick to this? I tried a lot of different combinations of using the forum's "Soundcloud" tag and the various embedding methods from Soundcloud's page, but I can't seem to get it to work.

From SoundClouds website:

To get an embed code for your track or playlist, click the 'Share' button below the waveform and an overlay will appear. Click on the embed tab to view what options you have to embed your player. Copy-paste the embed code from 'Code & preview'.

Thanks, Rick. I tried that already, and it didn't work. If I just paste in the code, it just shows up in the posting as the code string. If I wrap the code using the Soundcloud button when posting, I just get a blank Soundcloud bar.

Here's the code I get from the "embed" share on Soundcloud:

In Soundcloud, click the share button. Beneath all the social media icons is a box with a URL. Copy the URL, and drop it between the Soundcloud codes in AGF. The entire URL, not like embedding YT videos, where you just use the code part.

Thanks, Bucc. If I try that, my link is "https://soundcloud.com/user-999108151/don-quixote/s-khku8" (without the quotes)

If I drop that between the Soundcloud codes, I get an invalid URL message:

I pasted your link into my browser, which took me to your Soundcloud track, where I got the message, 'This track is private.' Maybe you have to make the track Public to share it?

Thanks for the input, Bucc. I just changed it to public, but it hasn't really changed the result. I wonder if you need to be Soundcloud Pro member to use the embedded player (or perhaps a higher-level or charter member here on the AGF)?

Nope. I'm a bottom-dwelling unpaid member at both SoundCloud and AGF, and I don't have this problem. After changing the track to Public, did you Share again to get a fresh URL?

Yes, the URL was identical.

I'm stumped. It's undoubtedly something obvious, but I can't figure out what I'm missing.

Thanks for trying! Maybe I'll start from scratch an re-upload the clip to Soundcloud...maybe something got hosed the first time around.

BTW for me I can not view embedded Soundcloud items with the Internet Explorer browser. They do view and play fine in Chrome and some other browsers.

For others who come across this thread:

1) The Soundcloud clip MUST be public in order to display the player.
2) If it was previously private, you have to leave off the "secret key" when you surround it with the Soundcloud tags.

In short, the link code between the Soundcloud tags should look like this (minus the quotes)

"https://soundcloud.com/user-999108151/don-quixote"

and not like this....

"https://soundcloud.com/user-999108151/don-quixote/s-khku8"

That "s-khku8" at the end is the unique "secret" tag provided by Soundcloud when a clip is marked as private.

Same situation here. Even when viewing with Chrome, though, I never listen to Soundcloud embeds.
