Default NGD Fender Tele Prototype

Went shopping for a Les Paul, went home with a Tele.

This guitar came up for sale yesterday morning upon the release of Sweetwater's guitar month specials. For some reason I was instantly drawn to it and rushed to get it in my cart before someone else did. Here's what I know. Is a US dealer event model that Sweetwater received as were a few others. However this one is laser etched on the back of the body as well as the headstock with Corona Fender Prototype. Only s/n on the guitar is a SE number on the neck plate.

The body is adler with a figured walnut top. The pickguard is flame maple and actually inlaid into the top, not a screw on. The neck is rosewood with a birdseye maple fingerboard channeled into the rosewood so the fingerboard is bound. It has a custom shop twisted tele rhythm p/u and a vintage style single coil in the bridge. The tone pot is apparently set up so that turning it to 10 will bypass the tone control and send straight pickup to the amp for a "hotter and more aggressive tone". I've only had time to take it out of the case since it arrived at lunch time and of course I'm stuck at work, but I can't wait to plug in this eve. I'll have to give Fender a call to try and find some more information out about this guitar, and I've only been able to find a strat that was sort of similar in my web scouring.

When you described it in the other thread, it sounded to "busy" and I thought I wouldn't like it. But it really looks classy, I like it. It is interesting that the neck p/u is mounted in the body rather than pick guard... kind of a throw back? That is a very nice guitar.

I'd love to hear the 'tone on 10' with some nice hot country chickin pickin

Gorgeous! It's just as well for me that they are now out of these. I don't think I would've resisted the GAS for that one. One of the sharpest teles I've ever seen, and I bet that walnut cap really sings. I also love the channeled fingerboard inlay...good score!

I've managed to squeeze in a whopping 10 minutes of playing the guitar. My co-worker borrowed my amp and he's currently on travel, so I played through my amplitube and mini PA speaker. Really needing to get the amp back quick. Initial impressions is I'm really digging the bridge p/u. There is a slight change in tone when bypassing the tone switch, but couldn't tell the +\- through my 4" PA speakers. Guitar is comfortable as all get out and the unfinished neck rocks.

Will post back when I can get a good playing sample in, and my amp back.

Aren't all Tele neck pickups mounted in the body, and the screws hidden by the pick guard?

Anyway, that is one pretty guitar, looking forward to reading on your thoughts when you have your proper amp to play it through!

Rosewood with a maple board... Perfect. Novel. More of it should exist.

Nope, they are normally attached to the pickguard. I think only the original (like first year or two) were they attached to the body.

Odd. Basically the reverse of my Stambaugh B-Bender. Never figured I'd see something like that from Fender.

That looks cool. Maybe it was the inspiration.
