Personally, I don't like the little Martin because they are "top heavy." The neck is heavy while the body is light, and it just doesn't feel right. The GS mini is a better option IMHO.

My daughter is 8 (but tall for her age, 56"), and we got her a Walden T550 (now the T500, I think). She didn't like it as much as the Walden CO500 that I bought, so now she uses the CO500. Both have 1 11/16" necks, and are easy to play. Just two more ideas to toss in.

He plays it but does not really practice much. In January we are trying a guitar class with other kids his age.

Default Guitar for 10 year old

Hi Rick-slo. I enrolled my kid in group lessons starting in January as well.

As it is, I've decided to get the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany for my son to use.

Chomper, I'm sure they are all good and what you feel best with will be the right one. Taylor GS mini is highly thought of by alot. By the way the setup on the Lil Martin was great out of the box. I guess I went with the LXK2 cause I like the stratabond neck for a younger child (again mine is 8yrs old) cause to me they are stronger than a wooden neck. I do have a Martin OM-1 with the stratabond neck also and it stays in tune what seems like forever. I have had no problems with it. He did have a hand in picking it out but doesn't know he is getting one. He seemed happy and interested with the Martin so that means alot to me that he will be excited and hopefully stick with the playing. Good luck to you and yours.

Any suggestions?

I would NOT go with a GS mini for it is NOT a full scale guitar.

The action on my Martin LXK2 is excellent. It could be lowered a touch more, I suppose, but it's very easy to play out of the box.
