Default Woods under the knife again

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/39662377

Well it's another "successful" surgery for Tiger and he's out for at least 6 months, propabably more. After his third surgery on his back under the knife it's finally time to stick a fork in him. He's 41. The number of players who have won majors at his age with good backs is a very small select few.

Pity that. He had the most complete game in the history of the sport.

I bet he wishes he never had the first surgery and just retired. These aging atheletes chase their health the way an addict chases heroin. They are just trying to re-experience their first time.

I hope he feels better, but his competititve golfing days are behind him.

I'll bet he turns up on TV next year.

I have to admit I'm not much of a golf fan, but when Tiger was playing in a major tournament I usually watched it. Seems like his game nose dived about the same time as his personal life. That can't be coincidence if you ask me.

Sad to hear about that. But he was burning the candle at both ends for a while there, with his explosive golf swing, extremist workout routines, and reckless personal life. Father Time never shows mercy.

You're right. I think it all caught up to him. Just before the debacle at the fire hydrant he had lost the '09 PGA while entering the final round in the lead. That was a rarity.
He did manage to win 5 times in 2013, so it's as if the rocket was going down but still had an after burner left. No majors though.
Now it seems to finally have crashed to the ground.
Doesn't take anything away from his greatness though. Nor his impact on the game, and player wallets!

I thought this thread was going to be about your renewed whittling/woodcarving hobby.

It was just a matter of time with the way he swung the club.

Freddy Couples has a bad back and he looks like he is sweeping the porch by comparison.

I spent my youth as a caddy and driving range attendant. Hit a lot of balls, sometimes several hundred a day.

Back problems started in my early 20's, and I no longer play golf, basketball or run, it is just too painful and even disabling at times.

Golf is a great game, but some of our spines just don't hold up well to the forces.

Now he has had a fusion. The medical advice I got was sure, we can fuse it for you, and it will help for a little while. But since you have issues at multiple levels the fusion will just increase the forces elsewhere in the spine, and don't think it is going to let you return to your previous lifestyle without pain. So plan on more than one fusion. I opted to go with more conservative methods.

I think it is over for Tiger. I was never a fan of his way of doing things, but it is still hard to watch.

....
He may well have enjoyed continued success if his 'reckless personal life' hadn't been cut short in its prime. The high testosterone ego probably took a bad hit when he appeared, cap in hand, groveling before the public with that pathetic apology speech.
