Sadly, no.
I do not have a 2am or any other time friend.
The few friends I have are not close enough to
me in that kind of way to help me out if I am struggling.

Yep this is my situation also, she is best friend and life partner. I have one very close male friend left who I talk to periodically but no late night chatting , like HHP noted, a call a 2 in the morning would almost certainly mean a death.

Yes. This exactly.

My 2 AM friend would be my wife but unless it is a true emergency, I’m sure whatever “it” is can wait until the morning.

If at 2am I whisper to my wife, “Honey, are you asleep?” She will say, “Go to sleep! I have a headache.”

Lol

Please hold all calls (even death notices).
I'm sure they will still be dead in the morning.

Though I do consider myself friendly I've never cultivated close or even casual friendships. I've never needed a shoulder nor care to be one, meaning, I'm a social recluse despite my friendly public persona. The last time I was socially active at 0200 hours was working the flightline maintenance swing shift in the USAF 40 years ago.

Ha ha ha! Sometimes, if I haven't talked to my mother in a while (she will be 91 in a couple of months) she will call me and tell me she could have been laying dead on the floor..................... How would you respond to that?

I do have a couple of buddies, that if the manure hit the fan at 2am, would be there in an instant for me if I needed them.

I would do the same for them.

Now if I called at that hour "just to chat" they would tell me to STHU immediately.

I don't have any friends at all. A few task-related acquaintances, maybe, but no close friends. Hard to believe my life has come to this.

Yep; and it's a two-way street. I consider myself very lucky.

I'm able to function coherently out of a dead sleep due to my "callout" years with a utility. Jim's the same way - he's a retired military ship captain.
