Default 2018 Winter Olympics...

Surprised no-one has yet mentioned the Winter Olympics now underway. My SO and I have been very impressed with Mixed Doubles Curling, a new-ish quick and more exciting version of curling. Two member mixed-sex teams (instead of 4 all-male or all-female competing separately) with fewer rocks, fewer ends and some interesting rule changes that really speed the game up. Very impressed by the accuracy and skill of the teams sliding those stones down the sheets!

Anyone else watching? What sports catch your interest?

Phil

Hey Phil, I haven't watched any yet. Looking forward to seeing some hockey games but I think given the time zone difference that it may be difficult to do.

Was watching speed skating short track last night. Exciting stuff. I never got curling, it’s as exciting as a golf game to me.

My next door neighbor (actually 3 houses down) is in the Women's Luge. I'll make it a point to watch that.
Other than that, if I'm flipping channels and something catches my attention, ill watch. That said, Snowboarding is pretty cool.

I've watched a lot on and off since the start of coverage, and plan to continue to do so throughout the games. I have always loved the Olympics, especially the Winter Olympics.

I was really into the Women's Biathlon (7.5km sprint) coverage today. The high winds made for added drama during the shooting portions of the event. Great stuff. Congratulations to Germany's Laura Dahlmeier on winning the Gold Medal, her first Olympic medal.

Best wishes to all the competing athletes. I look forward to watching as much as I can.

Give the Mixed Doubles Curling a shot...might surprise you. More like a driving competition for distance AND accuracy than a game of golf!

High hopes for the Canadian Ladies, of course. In the Atlantic time zone we're stuck between good and bad...things that happen in the early morning in Korea are prime time here (ie. the Mixed Doubles curling has been starting at 8, we're watching the final round robin match online as I type) but events in the afternoon are middle of the night. One more high side is that evening events are live first thing in the morning here...watched the opening ceremonies live here at 7 am on Friday.

If you miss an event, the CBC has most sports available (anything that's not running on TSN anyway) for replays. You can catch ALL of the Canadian mixed doubles curling matches for the round robin. They're also doing a good job of time-shifting some of the major events to prime-time broadcast.

Just curious, do any of you feel greater poignancy about the Olympics, particularly the competitors, the older you get? Especially with the true amateurs...there's something beautiful about it all that I appreciate much more at 40 than I did at 20.

Watching as many of the televised events as possible. I always watch as much of the Olympics as possible.

Watching curling now.

Yes we watch the winter Olympics intensely.

My favorite is the biathlon.

Love the winter olympics...love all of the sports. The thing I like most, is in most events the altheletes perform solo or near solo. Even though its a team and all of that, I really like watching one thing at a time. Im not much of a hockey or football fan I guess. The downhill, curling , figure skating and especially the ice dancing are my favorites I think.

I have zero interest in the summer games, and only a few events in the winter games interest me. However, when the politics emerge, my interest again reaches zero.

Definitely...but wait until you hit 60...my appreciation of their athleticism and dedication to the sport that they love just keeps growing. We especially enjoy the winter sports, primarily from individual athletes as opposed to team sports, that require both brains and brawn!

Up here in Canada we don't hope for American success(generally speaking) because we're huge rivals in things like hockey but I have to admit that your Redmond Gerard winning a gold in slopeside snowboard ahead of two Canadians was inspiring to watch. He is 17 and only 5 ft. 5 in. and was the only American in the field and he just NAILED his last run! There's a MFTV movie waiting to happen there.Congrats to the little giant.
