new kid on the block
Names Tom and Ive been lurking here since joining about a month ago. Figured it was high time I introduce myself. Just picked up the guitar again after a lifetime of wishing I had the time. Now that Im retired I've got no more excuses.
Ive been finding this place very informative and look forward to picking up pointers along the way. |

welcome Tom,
we will want to know more about the guitar you play and the music you enjoy. It's a really pleasant place here at the AGF, where our golden rule is "BE NICE". Look forward to hearing more from you. cheerios amyfb

Thanks guys and girls for the warm welcome. To answer AMYs question...
Right after an early retirement I purchases a decent Japanese Takamine dred, that I still have. The problem was that I couldn't stay with it for more than 20 minutes or so at a time before joint problems forced me to put it down. And no I'm not talking 420 joints, Im talking elbows, shoulders, and hands. It was suggested to me that Id do better with a smaller bodied guitar, with a bigger neck. After a few trips to a couple of GCs I concluded that the OM sized guitars worked pretty well for me. I found myself in a local to me music store, that sold quality instruments. I tried out a couple of Taylors, and a couple of Martins. I was very much considering a Martin 000 28 when the guy handed me this Santa Cruz OM. Even with my limited experience I felt that the Santa Cruz was alive in my hands. Then he dropped the price bomb on me, and had me leaving, wishing he had never pulled that guitar down from its hanger. I continued to shop around online and came across a guy selling the same model Santa Cruz in used but mint condition. The only difference was that his was an OMS model with turned out to be easier for me to play. After driving 6 hours to check the guitar out it now sits in my den. Its more than I could have hoped for, and is getting played daily. My poor lonesome Takamine sits all kinds of lonely in its case. |

Another welcome here Tom. I, like you (and a lot of other people on this forum), re-dedicated ourselves to playing after retiring.
You came to a great place for inspiration, knowledge, and maybe a little bad influence of GAS. I love your Santa Cruz find - it's the one thing that's been on my radar for a bit now. Glad you're here - make yourself at home. Dan |
