Taylor 562
Has anyone here played the 562ce 12 string? I like the idea of a smaller 12 and have read some great reviews but have never actually played or even seen one in person. Wondering whether the GC size is much more comfortable that GS or GA sizes.

I have one and love it. So comfortable, with the GC body, being a 12-fret, and being a Taylor 12, which have great playability. I fingerpick with it, but it has a great voice for strumming too. Put it this way, I have gone through 4 other 12 strings, this is the keeper.

I bought one in December and consider it the best 12 string I've ever owned.

I played one, and if I were to write a prescription for what I would believe to be the perfect 12-strings, this would be it.
YMMV. |

I’ve played one in one of the shops I frequent.
Great little guitar. And the 12 fret neck makes it sound better and play amazingly.

Beautiful guitar, Taylor playability. I prefer the jumbo rosewood sound and this guitar fell short of the low end I like to hear in a 12.

But, I totally get that the smaller size makes a 12 string more manageable and comfortable. And there's a lot to be said for that.

Taylor 562
Great guitar. Easy to play due to 12 fret neck. Surprising power from a small body.
The only issue you would have is if you also have a jumbo 12 string and start to A/B them with the expectation that the highly responsive 562 will match the jumbo. It simply won't. But, ergonomics, ease of playing and great sound make this a fabulous guitar for someone that needs a physically smaller guitar (shoulder issues perhaps) or less string tension (hand issues). I only don't have mine as I have a personal commitment to donate a couple of instruments a year to two charities I'm involved with (Hungry for Music and Hero's Voices) and I picked it as one of the donations. They typically sell the higher end donations and buy a half dozen beginner instruments so it went to a very good cause. 562 is a beautiful guitar with impeccable fit and finish. But not the same projection (simple physics) of my K65ce. Wonderful subdued appointments. If I have any physical issues down the road (I tune down my 12 strings half a step to help) it would be back on my radar. |

Mine is awesome but it needed a good setup to get there which surprised me. The primary issue was the 1st fret action was high and the nut slots were not filed evenly. I was struggling with 1st position chords. Taken care of now.
I had a GA3-12 and surprisingly this guitar is not far off volume wise but it’s a lot more comfortable for me. You should also try the 552 if possible, tone wise probably lemon versus lime with 562. I like the warmer 562 tone better.

I played a 362ce last night at a Taylor Road show. There were a lot of beautiful guitars there, including some new V braced models, but this little 12 string was what I kept coming back to.
The body size was so comfortable and it was so easy to play. I have a Martin X series 12 string (dread) which is a beast to play compared to this Taylor. It was a loud environment with a lot of other guitars being played nearby, so I couldn't get a great read on the tone, but now a 362 or a 562 is on my radar for a future purchase. |

These discussions about the Taylor 12 fret, short scale 12 string guitars always get me thinking about trying one. I have 2 twelve strings, but both are full scale guitars, and I can't help but wonder how much easier the 562 or 362 would be to play. After all, one of my 12 strings is a very fine Taylor, with a great setup, and I tune it a half step down to ease the effort. How much easier could the shorter scale Taylors be to play?

Taylor 562
My 562 was very easy to play.
I keep my jumbos down a half step and the action was then similar to the 562 at pitch but the scale length is shorter (and therefore easier) and very comfortable as it is a GC size. The 562 could go down a half step but a full step with Elixir lights would have needed further setup (and really, I'm not sure that is the design goal of that guitar). If you can't get your hands on a 562, maybe some time on a 12 fret GC would give you a feel before ordering? |
