NGD! Stanford!
After much thought and 2 threads of advice my Stanford PSD-28 arrived today. Unboxed and checked over my inspection revealed no flaws. I checked the neck angle after a few scary tales of early models and it is in line with my Yamaha, just right. Serial is 06 04 08 for the UBGF forum. My initial strum was with the original strings I've since changed them to EJ16's. I had a scout about inside to see perfect workmanship using a small mirror.
To the sound. The recommendation for this guitar is well deserved. Good strong bass thad doesn't drown the treble and plenty of oomph in the mids too Can only improve with age too. Only thing that surprised me was the nut width. Bit wider than my yamaha but a while playing the Stanford left my yamaha feeling cramped. I have took it to work with me tonight to play the new string brightness out (yuk) once it calms down I will get a real taste of it's sound. Even with new strings that bass is strong. All in all a happy strummer.

SEE?
Hey, did you say that the serial # is 060408? That makes it an '06 (first 2 digits are the model year). Mine is serial # 060411......very close to yours actually. What are the chances? I like the wider Stanford 1-3/4 nut better than on any dread I've owned, as well as the soft V neck profile. Really comfortable and less cramped IMO. Enjoy the new guitar, Dek! I'm sure you will........... I just posted a thread demo of my Sitka-Mahogany PSD-10 in Show & Tell BTW. http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=164497 Last edited by 66strummer; 09-23-2009 at 06:42 PM. |

Congrats on the new axe. I knew you would love it. There is one thing I have to know though... what does "NGD" stand for? (pardon my ignorance)

Congratulations! I'm sitting here now playing my Stonebridge D-40Cm (cedar/mahog) dread and thinking once you get used to that neck, it seems the easiest ever to play. Enjoy it, I'm sure it will become one of your favorites.

Dek.......
The first Stanford I ever heard was a PSD-20 recorded on a very cheap digital camera and uploaded to Youtube. Even with the cheap quality of the recording I could tell there was something special about the tone that I hadn't heard in other Chinese imports I'd played. I ordered one within a week of hearing that clip. When I got it I was floored. It surpassed what I was expecting and then some! I think the guy removed the video later when he got into financial trouble and sold the guitar on Ebay. You should join the Stanford bunch on the UBGF. Welcome to the club! |

New Guitar Day. It's a very common expression over on the Harmony Central Forum. Then everybody starts posting pictures of goats. Kinda weird. Not sure I get that part......
