Brian May Rig Rundown
I always enjoy Premier Guitar's Rig Rundowns but this one is lovely... I enjoyed listening to Brian's guitar tech but the sit down with Brian himself is a special treat.

I really enjoy these as well. Brian's tone is NO easy one to capture!

The strings he uses almost look like they are bronze wound I've never seen those before. I remember trying a coin pick because I heard that is how May gets his tone and OMG. I like heavy picks but that is just crazy lol. I'm surprised how close the E-strings are to the edge of the fretboard. And I am wondering what that fretboard is made out of. It is really shiny I guess it could be finished ebony. One of my home built strats has all the phase switching and what not, it's a lot of fun to play around with.
His guitar is such a cool story and jsut goes to show ya if you keep looking for guitars maybe you should just stop and settle down on one... Or make your own |

I enjoyed the rundown too. I can't believe his "goto guitar" is still the one he made! And that using a coin as a pick thing-- amazing. I have a friend that worked in the record business most of his life and he met Brian. He said he is both brilliant and down to earth at the same time. And his tech was pretty entertaining too. Anyway, recommended viewing.

Rig Rundown has some great 'episodes'. I enjoyed the Dave Murray and Jeff Beck ones.
I only watched 5 minutes of the Brian may one but it was interesting about the pence/pick. |

Have to be honest... my favourite Rig Rundown is the Nels Cline one. Great guitar player, engaging human, fascinating rig.

I admire Brian May. An iconic rock guitarist, with a PhD in Astrophysics.
I love that he doesn't need some flamboyant, brand name guitar. And, after all these years, he still loves and is amazed by his guitar.

A few years ago I helped him out with some music software stuff... never managed to meet him (I was based in Paris at that point) but he was kind enough to send me a signed copy of his astronomy book. Top bloke.

I hear ya, Noledog. I think it was you who showed me the Jeff Beck episode. That's the first time I had seen Rig Rundown, it's a great "show".

Thanks to Mark Reynolds for this shot of Brian's touring Echoplex from the 70s:
Note the double length head rail to allow double the delay and the modified electronics. Also note the silver transport deck that makes it from about '74 on. Bob
