Thanks guys for all the input! I went to guitar center yesterday to try some out, it seems that all the Fenders in that price range are made in Mexico, how much of a difference does it make being made in Mexico? My friend was telling me to get an American made one, but they are so much more expensive.

Check into the Gibson "Faded" Les Paul or one of the slab bodied double cuts. Both are American Gibsons at arounf 649. Its 150 over the 500, but if you're looking for a humbucker guitar, they are pretty basic and good. Also I hear a PRS SE Korean model can be had for around 500. These are really nice, if you can accept a Korean guitar.
