Trimming does feel good, relaxing even. I am down from six acoustics to two: I have a dreadnought and a 0-size. and the latter doubles as my travel guitar.

Yes you need a 12 string. Taylor makes a good one for not too much $$$$. Hope that helps.

I've been downsizing for retirement for a while now, think I'm pretty much there with a very nice balanced little stable:
1 electric (1970 D'Agostino custom strat with solid neck) 1 acoustic electric (Martin GPCPA1) 1 OM (Martin 2005 OM-45 Tasmanian Blackwood) 1 000 (Martin 2004 000-18GE, can't handle the Authentic neck) 1 parlor (Martin custom shop 0-28VS, mastergrade Carpathian over Amazon Rosewood, gold Waverly's with snakewood buttons, dark Fossil Mammoth Ivory pins and end pin...lap piano!!) Sold my last dread and I think I have all my needs covered, have instruments I never dreamed I would own when I was young, all is well, no GAS. Now I need to start performing out again, working on it............

Hmmm... I sold more than 20 vintage electrics just this year... I'm just keeping my 57' blonde telecaster and my 62' burst es335... Sometimes I still miss my huge collection, took me a lot of years searching for them... but there came a point where I hardly use them....
I hope to trim my acoustics also... maybe sell the Greenfield and Traugott... maybe... From more than 60 guitars 2 years ago, I was able to trim it down to 35 a year ago... and now I just have 13 guitars, w/ 2 custom builds coming late this year and early 2014.... Still hoping to trim it down to maybe 8... hahaha |

I know I need to do this - I know it, I know it, I know it -
But I just can't decide which to let go - whenever I think I've made a decision, I pick that one up and play it, and remember whats so special about it - But I'm happy to hear when others can do it - gives me hope -

I am dreadless for the first time in decades, but I can live with what I have left, and that little 0-28VS is a hoot, great for sofa playing......

it like the "jack of all trades," can do fingerstyle better than dreads, and can strum better than om's or smaller; however a good dread may sound better strummed, and a good smaller guitar may sound better picked[when comparing to similarly built, good sounding martins] better, of course, being subjective.
traditional martin sound; has good clarity, bass and mids. good volume. considering that its scalloped braced, the guitar sounds surprisingly focused, almost like a straight braced D35, or a d28. it handles old strings well, maintaining good quality sound for a while(saves $$$.) what i would want more from the guitar would be more sustain, but i guess its a trade off for a bit more "rolling" notes. cosmetically, its a beautiful guitar; i like the 3 piece back. hope that helps.
