Your choices and reasoning are spot on.. I had some great conversations with both Michi Matsuda and John Monteleone at the recent Woodstock Luthiers Show and managed to play a few of their guitars. Each was a wonderful experience.. I wrote of those talks and experiences with their guitars on a thread I have going elsewhere on this forum: http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=197803 You might find it interesting.. Thanks, LC |

Charis,Olson,Traugott in no particular order.
I have two Charis guitars and both sound excellent. Never owner an Olson but they sound great too expensive though. Same with Traugott.... |

I know he doesn't build to sell but I would love a guitar made by William Eaton. Ryan, Olsen and Charles Fox are next in line.

steve sheriff - his guitars are gorgeous and inspired, his philosophy and preferences match my own. and if you've ever talked to steve, it's easy to realize that he's a real artist with SUCH a feel for guitars on every level. i consider myself extremely fortunate that my first hand-built guitar is going to be one of steve's
james goodall. his guitars redefined for me how rich and lush a guitar could sound. they're satisfying, amazing and wonderful. and while i had to really think about number three, after really pondering, i'd say john how. he builds some sweet traditional parlors. |

I've got to put my friend Joel Stehr on the list. Of all the guitars I've played thus far, I'll say Stehr, Bashkin and Ryan.
However, I also was heavily enamored by Baranik, Edwinson (Stephen Sheriff), Stephen Kinnaird, Petersen, Goodall, and a sweet 12 string by Yamogato. All from the one and only guitar show I've been to (Healdsburg 2013). Those all deserve honorable mention. Check back after Memphis next June, and I'm sure I'll find some others |

Old thread but what the heck. The holy trinity for me (of the ones I've tried) would be:
1- Kim Walker 2- Jeff Traugott 3- Ervin Somogyi Honorable mention: 4- Michi Matsuda 5- Nick Kukich (Franklin) 6- Laurent Brondel 7= John Slobod (Circa)

I'm surprised that no one mentioned John Greven. He's got a vote of three from me.
