What magazines do you hang onto?
What magazines do you read that you keep because of the information value?
For me I hang onto Backpacker Magazine and Mother Earth News. I hang onto Backpacker because it list trails that are local that I haven't hike. The gear review is good but get's dated as time goes by. Mother Earth News for the "how to" "DIY" "recipes" and gardening tips.

None.
I used to hang onto my Men's Health, Acoustic Guitar, Modern Drummer, and Dulcimer Players News magazines. I'd look at them, but by the time the next month's rolled around, I'd never look at them again. They piled up, and I tossed them. The only one I get now is Wood and Steel (because it's free). They get tossed after a few months as well. I just tossed about 4 years' worth of Dulcimer Players News magazines. I hated to do it, but I'd never read them. Haven't touched it in a couple of years? Time to go. |

I keep certain issues of investment magazines (Kiplinger's, Money) that list annual mutual fund results. I keep some anniversary or other special issues of publications that have great articles or photos -- but part of that is typical for anyone in the advertising art/illustration field; I was taught to keep an illustration reference morgue from my earliest days in the biz. Mine is now up to 10 file drawers at my office, but I've already scoped out a friend who's still active as an illustrator and she'll receive the morgue when I'm ready to retire.
By the way, check to see if your local library hosts a magazine sharing exchange. Mine does, and it makes a nice option to "tossing" (whether that typically means recycle bin or trash can to you). My wife brings home month-old mags from the clinic where she works and I take them to the library (OSHA rules did away with the tradition of ancient magazines in waiting rooms). I also check the exchange for copies of New York Times Magazine, since my wife loves the puzzles. Dirk |

Tape Op and Mix Magazine are my pair. They do the in-depth interviews with recording producers, engineers, and equipment designers that I find fascinating. Tape Op is heavily into vintage analog gear and integrating it with digital processes.

WoodenBoat and its occasional supplements. The only other magazine I receive is The Economist; I pass those on to my dad after I've read them.

Same for me. It's the only magazine I hold onto. Then after a while, I wonder why I do that. Sometimes I do go back and read them again, though.

All music magazines, especially if they have sheet music. Most of the time I bought them for the sheet music. All others got tossed and we don't allow printed magazines or catalogs into the house anymore. It's 2015. There is no more reason for current print news media than for hand carving wheels out of stone

None. I buy them, read them and take them to the V.A. to set out for waiting rooms.

National Geographic and Fingerstyle Guitar.
I've been reading National Geographic since I was a kid. I never stopped except for some periods when I couldn't afford the subscription. I love this magazine, there is always a ton of interesting stuff in it. I like Fingerstyle Guitar mostly for the song arrangements, although there are some good lessons and articles as well. Most of the songs are beyond me at this point, but there are usually one or two in each magazine I can make an attempt at. And I can listen to the rest on the CDs and it gives me something aspirational to work toward. |

I keep old copies of FrethouseŠ Magazine.
I only read the articles, although some buy it for the erotic fingering positions.
