Default Seagull MARITIME SWS ROSEWOOD SEMI-GLOSS QIT

Have an opportunity to pick up a excellent condition one of these for $700 without a case. Sounds like a good deal since they go for around $850 new on Amazon. I am just a little uneasy about buying over the internet sight unseen.

Anyone have any experience with this model?

Yes, they are an excellent guitar IMHO, but given today's used market, I don't think that is a great price for a used one, even in excellent condition.

However, I would not worry about the quality and buying over the internet. Godin has excellent quality control and what they class as "B" stock, others sell as "A".

This isn't through Godin. It's through a private seller.

I have to agree, not a great price IMO either.

For reference here are some on Reverb: https://reverb.com/p/seagull-maritim...coustic-guitar

My math says that by the time you add a case comparable to what it came with new, you will be paying very close to new price for a used instrument. Not a super deal......

A secondary factor is that Seagull started using epoxy to attach the necks a few years ago (the bolts now act only as clamps while the epoxy cures) so neck resets are not feasible. In a warranty situation, they intend to simply replace the guitar outright, rather than attempt a neck reset. That also argues fairly strongly for new versus used, unless you *actually* get a great deal on used.

I'm generally very positive about Godin / Seagull guitars -- very good bang for the buck. I've owned several and still have one.

The ones that are cheaper than $700 are all blemished. The only other below $700 is another "excellent" condition for $660, but its got a couple scuffs.

I know. Godin is the mfr. They make Seagull, A & L, S & P and others.

A good price would be $550.00. A great price would be $400.00 which would be just under 50% off of new.

You can't find 50% off new on a "slightly used or like new" guitar.

If you're open to Mahogany instead of Rosewood, GC has the SWS Maritime SG for $539 (new). They also have a 15% off coupon, which may or may not bring the price even lower.

Last year, around NAMM time, I got an SWS Mini Jumbo (Mahogany/Sitka) for about this price and the coupon. Delivered to the store for about $450!

It is rare but people have and I saw an ad for one the other night. While that is true, I would not pay that price for a used guitar and no matter how little it has been played, it is a used guitar. I am just giving you my opinion and what I will and will not pay and what the market is. If you want that guitar then you can pay what you want. I can get a brand new one in Canada for what you are paying used.

Sight unseen? No pictures or disclosure on dings etc?

I'd pass on it.

If they are advertised as new on Amazon for $850 you could get one from a dealer for $750 or less if you offer cash.

I paid $650 for a new SWS Maritime dread a couple of yrs ago.

Thanks but I specifically want the Rosewood cause it comes with the 1.72 nut instead of the wider 1.80
