Default NGD - for as long as it took to unpack the wrong model! (Martin Dread Junior)

I'm travelling a lot more with work lately, so I decided to upgrade my Baby Taylor for something a bit more playable that I could still get on a plane.

Seeing the Martin Dreadnought Junior had a 1.75" nut was on obvious decision swinger for me, as I only play fingerstyle and that matches my other guitars with only the slightly shorter scale as compromise. So I ordered it on Friday from a big UK supplier with Saturday delivery. It didn't turn up. Then it arrived late today and I eagerly opened the box....

....I ordered a Spruce top with no electrics, and I was looking at a Sapele top with a pickup in.

On the bright side, I gave it a good demo and it's awesome, a fabulous little guitar. It's actually almost identical in size to my Collings 01, with a wider waist and the slightly shorter neck. It's still going back as I prefer the spruce model, and I will never ever plug it in.

I hope your suppliers in the US are more reliable!

I've had quite a lot of stuff from them. They've always been very reliable.

Doesn't surprise me, a big box store in UK terms but i've never been that impressed with their customer service. Guitar village now that's a good shop. Hope it gets sorted soon, was the tone warm and with a deep bass? I've been looking for another beater as i would like to get rid of my voyage air.

The correct Dread Junior turned up today. I've just spent an hour putting my preferred strings on (Elixir PB 12's), and gradually taking the action down whilst testing the tone and sustain etc. (it went all the way down with no adverse effect whatsoever)

Blown away best sums it up. I was not expecting a 'junior' guitar to be that good. The playability is 10/10, acknowledging the effects of the 24" scale, I would still say it plays better and easier than my 000-18 and Collings 01. It plays like a dream. Richlite? Bring it on!

The tone is pure Martin, dark and very woody. Sustain and depth of bass is superb. It resonates hugely, and is extremely sensitive and intimate. It reminds me of an unrefined 01! My only observation is it's so lively, the 2 treble strings can sound a bit loud/harsh, they don't need much encouragement.

In summary, I traded a Baby Taylor for a bigger/better 'travel guitar' and camping 'beater'. I've certainly got that, although I am a lot more protective and respectful all of a sudden. I'm not sure money could buy a better value guitar.

Congrats, love my DJr. Mine has a lot of mods, but it was just fine to start. It needs a string change, but all of my other guitars use lights so I need to go and get some mediums to slap on it. Enjoy! It will only get better.
