Yes Richard Thompson! His live solo record "Small Town Romance" is excellent.

as far as strictly meeting the OP's criteria — one vocalist, one guitar, and, in this case, only one of each (and nothing else) on every song for a whole album — i have to go with Roddy Frame's "Surf," recorded in 2002 in his living room on his iMac. (Probably an "iLamp" model.)

I can't find find a great performance video of a song from that album. Here's an OK one. I love this piano cover of the eponymous track, but it suffers from poor bitrate. I'll just keep listening to the original audio tracks . . . .

Never heard of this and immediately went looking for it. "Only Sold at Shows" ... disappointing.

Great question.
I think my answer depends on the time period. It's changed over 35 years. and I guess Simon and Garfunkel is out since they're two. But hard not to put Paul Simon first among others

Nebraska, freewheelin Bob, Good as I been to you, Neil Young live at Massey Hall 1971, John Prine, Jesus the Missing Years, clarence white's 33 Acoustic Instrumentals.

Mr. Paul,

There is an alternative since I did not get my copy at one of her shows. If you get on her email list, once a year (I think it might be around the end of the year) she does a special sale in support of her foundation - The Pearl Foundation. This CD is made available for that sale and that is how I purchased it. I would recommend getting on her list as it is a great CD and you will no longer be disappointed!

Best,
Jayne

Two others that I like that have not been mentioned:

The Indigo Girls - Poseidon and the Bitter Bug Deluxe Edition of the CD has a disc with just the two of them and their acoustic instruments. (More than 1 voice and 1 guitar but totally worth making it an exception!)

Catie Curtis - Acoustic Valentine - okay technically it is 1 voice and 2 guitars, but it is the late great John Jennings so who can quibble with that!? (RIP, John.)

Best,
Jayne
