I think if I were going for a different configuration I would put the buttons extending out either side in a shifted 3 + 3 pattern rather than out the back like this.

So while I kinda like the idea I would take it in a different direction.

Looks promising. It seems that the order of the stings 6 and 4 should be reversed, as well as 1 and 3. The would put the tuners in standard order and perhaps straighten the string pull.

Interesting. Maybe stagger the string holes in the posts to allow for straighter string pull on all six.

I agree, side tuners would look much better.
