Default The first picture / Claxton Content

I just received the first picture of my upcoming Ed Claxton guitar. This one will be a Maple Malabar with an Italian Spruce top. Ed really likes the combination of Maple and a 12 fret neck on the Malabar body, so of course I agreed. One slight variation on this one is that it will be a multi-scale, going from 24.75 to 25.5. I plan a trip to Ed's shop in July to pick this one up (fingers crossed)

John,

Congrats on the new build. I'm sure it will be a beauty!

One question, though: "Location: Mesquite, NV"

What?????

Yep, Mesquite. Left Little Rock for a condo on the beach. Two years of that was enough, and now it's the desert. Two whole house humidifiers in the music room, but it's worth it.

Claxton builds such a superb instrument, you're treating yourself to the finest!

The overall best acoustic I've ever played was a German/BRW Malabar: Astonishingly good.

I'd rate Ed no. 1 in terms of, "the most consistently brillliant luthier out there". There are many guys out there who can build you a great guitar but every single one of Ed's guitars that I have played have been at the very top of the pile, every single one.

He builds a very refined and balanced instrument and perhaps what surprises me even more than his consistency is that he achieves this irrespective of the woods used. Everything from walnut to macassar to mahogany sounds like an ultra responsive rosewood instrument. Weird!

Never played a maple Claxton tho'.

Cheers,
Steve

Well, enjoy the desert, John. But watch out for the rattlers in Springtime.

I'm somewhere in the NV desert too, but about an hour west of you. Some say it's a sinful place! A few snakes too.

Looking forward to more pictures.
