Fender amps
I may be in the market for a small low wattage tube amp for recording. Wondering what everyone's thoughts were on Fender amps these days. Open to suggestions but need to keep the cost down. I have looked at man boutique amps on-line and the temptation is great to go with a high quality piece of equipment but I can't justify the prices for this stuff. Won't get enough usage to justify the cost.

Low wattage tube amp for recording...you need to check out the Fender Pro Jr.. You can get them for around 299 or less everywhere that deals fender.
If you have more expensive tastes or a bigger budget, check out the Dr. Z Carmen Ghia. -Matt |

I use a Fender Pro Jr quite a bit...I did some mods to it, but it works well with my electroCoustic.
Just checked ebay, and found a couple dozen Fender champs for sale, many under $200....don't be afraid of the later versions either. These are "SE Class A" amps....one power tube and about 5 watts. Sound great cranked, and wwould work for recording acoustic through at lower volumes. Lot's of great rock solos have been recorded on the Fender champ....such as "Stairway to Heaven"..... |

Boy. you would never know what goes on in recording studios based on all the hype you see with the "rock Stars" and their mega equipment on stage and in photos. I will definately check it out. Thanks

You may also want to check out the Fender Blues Jr. It is a slightly larger version of the Pro Junior, and features spring reverb and a 12" speaker. I have one and it has suited my acoustic and electric needs well, though you may want to look at replacing the stock Eminence speaker with a Jensen or other upgrade.

Put me down as a Blues Jr. guy...traded it for a Crate V1512...traded the V1512 for another Blues Jr. Nothing like the Fender vibe.. you pay more for a Mesa F 30 but to me the Fender sounds like me.

One of the best recording amps I've ever owned was a 1972 Fender Princeton. I sold it because I wanted something with reverb. Of course, I'm kicking myself now.
If you can find one, it's worth it... Steve |
