Default 2009 Bourgeois "Banjo Killer" Slope Dreadnought

SOLD.

Serial #4953. Build completion date: 5/4/09.
Slope Dreadnought Model Flattop Guitar. 15 13/16” wide, 4 7/8” deep.
Solid Bearclaw Figured Sitka Spruce top with wood rosette, Black/Maple/Black top border, and scalloped bracing.
Solid Figured Mahogany sides and two-piece back with multicolor Herringbone backstrip.
Gloss body and neck finish.
Mahogany one-piece neck.
Ziricote fingerboard with tiny MOP dot inlays (25.5" scale length, 1 23/32” nut width, and 2.2" string spacing at saddle).
Ziricote belly bridge.
Ebony bridge pins with MOP dots.
Bone nut and saddle.
Ziricote peghead veneer with inlaid MOP Bourgeois logo.
Ivoroid binding on body and fretboard.
“Banjo Killer” pickguard.
Nickel Waverly tuners with Ivoroid buttons.
K&K Pure Mini passive pickup installed.
Hardshell TKL American Vintage Series case in excellent condition.

This light and lively Slope Dreadnought has lots of punch and projection, as the model was designed to compete with the volume of other instruments in a bluegrass band type of setting. There is very minimal fret wear, and playability is excellent. Cosmetically, there are a few light string change scratches on the peghead veneer and three very small and shallow impressions on the top, while the back, sides, and neck are pristine. And, to my ears, the K&K Pure Mini pickup is among the most natural-sounding units on the market.

Current set-up specs with medium gauge strings: Action is at 6/64" and 4/64" for the low E and high E strings, respectively, at the 12th fret. Neck relief is at .003" at the 5th fret.

Price lowered to $Sold shipped via FedEx Ground in the continental USA only, with payment by check or other non-fee method. (The current list price for this model without the installed pickup is $5095.)

Please respond to [email protected] with questions, or to request the high resolution pictures shown below as email attachments. I also have a few short sound clips to send.

No trade offers, please - - I'm downsizing my collection for retirement.

Thanks for looking!

I've played more han a few 'Banjo Killers' over time - they are powerful.

The mahogany on yours Larry, is striking.

I love this guitar. Is this a loud guitar when flat picked?

I understand the last time it was flat picked near a banjo, it was so loud that it killed the banjo - - -

To my ears, the Banjo Killer has the focused mid-range projection and articulation of a Mahogany/Adirondack OM size guitar, but with the added volume and bass response provided by its larger Slope Dreadnought size. It would be great for playing with other instruments in an acoustic setting, as the notes seem to "jump out" from the guitar.

This is not a violent instrument, but it has no problem throwing its muscle around.

I wanted to give Larry an endorsement from a completely satisfied buyer. I purchased the Bourgeois dread he had for sale on the AGF last Sunday. He shipped in less than 24hrs (on Monday), it arrived on Thursday. The instrument was BETTER than described, virtually a new guitar. A great person to deal with, honest and responsive.... A credit to our AGF community!

Telejonz - Glad to hear you like the Bourgeois Dread, and thanks for the kind words.

These are really great guitars. Yes, they are loud but in a refined, controlled sort of way. They project really well but also have a gratifying tone complexity. Really stellar guitars in my judgment.

I've had the pleasure of dealing with Larry more than once, and not only does he know his stuff, he's also a really good guy. This guitar will be better than described, having received the best of care. He has excellent taste in guitars, so to acquire one of his is a triumph. This one is also at a great price.

These are great sounding guitars (I've played a couple at shops) and the combo of woods on this one look super!

If the string spacing at the nut and saddle on this model was a little wider I'd have already bought one.

Good luck with the sale.

Mark
