Don't see wings in the photo. Why wouldn't the warranty cover a reset?

Because according to reports, the company has been waffling on neck resets lately.

It's a nice spec. Of course you can find a used D-28 Authentic 1937 for much less than half that, and get an arguably nicer spec. So unless you're really into bling...

I think the funny part is that I saw John talking at NAM about his amp and he mentioned how there's finally a super high end, affordable amp on the market. Maybe it's just me but when did $10,000 become affordable?
It's all relative right? The J-Mod compared to many other similarly equipped boutique amplifier is really not (even some Mesa Boogie's can hit that price point).

And the products are selling, so I don't think the intent was to have these as relatively inexpensive items for a larger market. It will be interesting to see what his new PRS strat will cost.

That's been debunked in this forum. I can ask my local shop if it's still in question, they're a world class repair shop.

One at the downtown Chigago GC, somewhere around $3800.

I'd like the HD-7 instead, as i already have a 6-string dread M.

That's good to hear, and I hope it's true.

Here's a post which covers it. Frank Ford is quoted, so my checking my local shop would be redundant.

I see what you are saying but one thing I will point out is that even in the boutique market, the PRS John Mayer amp is extremely expensive. Two Rock amps can get close to that in the $5000-7000 range but they are often considered to be a bit overpriced. I do definitely think that these companies are upping the price by $2000-3000 due to John Mayer being attached to it.

As for the PRS strat, that one bothers me a bit. John Mayer made a pretty public statement about leaving Fender and immediately after he jumped to PRS. Kind of fishy how a guy who had never used PRS before, leaves Fender and immediately has signature PRS guitars. He does come across as a guy who needs endorsements. Having a strat/PRS style guitar just seems as though it's an attempt to get back at Fender.

Maybe he always wanted to play PRS but didn't because of his Fender association. Maybe also playing with Dead & Co. necessitated some new equipment.

It's also possible that he needs endorsements, but it's just as likely that he's the kind of player that every company wants as an endorser. PRS likely jumped at the opportunity.

All a matter of perspective... A standard D-45 retails for $11,299.00, so for $3,700.00 more, you get:
  • Guatemalan Rosewood back and sides
  • Engelmann spruce top with aging toner
  • Forward shifted Adirondack X braces
  • Some additional bling (rosette extends through the fingerboard)
  • Full thickness neck
  • Gold open gear tuners
  • An interior label personally signed by John Mayer
The tonewood upgrades alone likely represent the price difference...or the lion's share anyway. So, for those looking for such a guitar--and when compared to the standard D-45--this guitar doesn't seem over-priced at all. Plus, you should be able to easily pick one of these up from a number of dealers for under $10K.

I can only admire from afar. Too rich for my blood. But sure is purty!

Being a bit of a John Mayer fanboy, I’ve never seen him with a dread in any live videos, concerts, pubs, bars, social media, etc. And definitely not with a D-45 of any type. So while I’m not saying this is certainly a money grab to attach John Mayer’s name to another almost-unattainable Martin (OM-28JM anyone?) it seems that way, to me. Still a beautiful guitar regardless.

I wouldn't buy one for myself but if someone gave me one I wouldn't throw it out.
