Default Why do they put...

a Cedar top on the GA and GS sizes of the 5XX and 7XX series and an engelmann top on the GC and DN sizes of the the 5XX and 7XX series? To me, it would seem that they would put the cedar on the GC and GA and then put the engelmann on the GS and DN. Can anyone explain to me the reasons they do it like they do?

It just seems strange to me since cedar is supposed to be geared more toward a light touch finger style type of play and the engelmann gives a little more headroom making it a little better for strumming. I'm sure they have their reasons and I'm sure they are great, I'm just curious.

Great question! I have no idea. Cedar makes a fine soundboard and smells like heaven. I think they just want to make the fewest number of models possible to please everyone. The reason they went to an A/E vs. "pure" acoustic line in 2006 was to try to cut down on the options and cut their wood according to its intended use. Seems to me that act is a bit of folly (and that seems to be borne out) since they're constantly blurring the lines between the product lines, especially with the limiteds.

But, it really is a good question. You should ask that to Wood and Steel and see if they reply.
