Default (Sold) Back on the Market: Martin Custom Shop OM-21 Special

Asking $2300 plus shipping; Conus Only; Paypal OK. Not interested in any trade.

Here is a Martin Custom Shop OM-21 Special (S/N 1972197). Alpine Spruce top with EIR back and sides. Koa binding, Genuine Mahogany neck with Guatemalan Rosewood fingerboard and bridge (full specifications at end of post).

A really nice looking guitar

I took this in a trade, and had planned on keeping it, but the right dread did show up.

So, I need to sell it.

It is a great sounding (see videos) and great playing guitar.

The guitar is in near mint condition, with just one small case bite. I've tried to show this in the photos.

Photo and video links:

Other photos can be found here

A sound sample of the guitar.

And here's a video from Musician's Friend demoing the guitar (this is the guitar used in the video):

Always been curious about these.

Just to clarify, does the heel block actually have "Custom Shop" stamped on it?

My playing buddy has an OM-21 Standard (with pickup) he uses as a stage guitar.
His has a Sitka top, and this an Alpine top.
Is it safe to assume they would sound pretty much alike?
Or, how does the top affect the tone?

Is the top wood (and the koa binding..love that) the primary difference?
What drives the premium price of a Special over a Standard?

Thanks.

Yes, the heel is stamped with 'Custom Shop'.

I'm no Martin expert, and really cannot elaborate on the difference between 'Standard' and 'Special'.

I can elaborate a little on this, as I'm a fan of the OM-21 Special! The biggest difference between the standard OM-21 Special & this custom, would be the string spacing. The standard has 2 5/16" spacing at the saddle, this one has 2 1/4". The other differences appear to be the woods. Koa binding, instead of rosewood on the standard; mahogany (12/4) neck instead of the Spanish Cedar; Guatemalan rosewood for fretboard & bridge, instead of ebony; and of course the Alpine Spruce top, instead of Sitka. All seem like worthy upgrades, not to mention you're dealing with a guitar that you will probably not ever see another like it, whereas the standard will have hundreds of kin. This one seems to be a great bargain for what the seller is asking! Not affiliated with seller, just marveling at a bargain someone is going to receive!

Thanks for the comments Steve.

This is a really nice guitar; someone should be really happy with it.

Hey there!

I'm going to see if I can figure out how to PM you. Apologies; I don't spend anywhere close to the time around guitar forums that I used to. Hang on a sec here, while I figure this out...

PS. See that you still have Merrill #66. Glad to see that not *everything* in this world has gone to hell in the last decade...
