Default Need RC-3 Help

I was hoping someone could help me with a Boss RC-3 looper issue. When I lay down my first loop it works great for any amount of time I want to record. During playback when I lay a loop over the first loop, I record two bars and while I'm still recording it starts playing the second loop that I'm recording back to me. Does anyone know why it does that and what I have to do to get it to stop? I'm not in auto mode, so I have to hit the pedal every time I want to lay down a loop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. REV
