I do own some smaller model guitars and also dreagnaughts. But before i take a 3 hours drive i am thankfull for the many responses i can read here. The trade will be based upon sound of course. Just curious what peoples opinions are in general. I do lean towards a OM42 based on YouTube. The Taylor left the case a few times in his life so is brand new, it did not open up yet. Loved the looks and was a bargain i could not let go,that is the reason it stayed with me. Now time to move on

A D40 custom cocobolo, with Italian spruce top, sounds like a beautiful and rare guitar. If everything checks out condition and sound wise and the trade values are about the same, I'd go for that one. An OM42 would be easier to find later.

I have a newer OM-42 and love it. Extremely versatile and the classic bling just works visually. I'm also a Martin fan in generally so my opinion is biased. In the end it depends on why you want to trade and the type of music you expect to play. I'm sure your 910 is also a great guitar.

I'd take the OM 42 because I already have a dreadnought. Cocobola is hard to pass by though. You seem to have the edge in the trade but a lot of people really like those 90's Taylors.

Agreed. It's hard to go wrong with Cocobolo.

So true
I put up a post couple weeks ago that I was waiting for my custom shop 00-42SC and some one wrote that it was “GAUDY”. It wasn’t just an unkind comment- it was ignorant- someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about- there is so much to the 40 series Martins- they are absolutely not just bling. An OM-42 is a wonderful guitar!

There's no accounting for peoples taste.
I think the '42' appointments are just perfect. Not so keen on the '45' large abalone fret markers, those smaller '42' snowflake markers are much more tasteful to my eye.

I'd go with the D-40 Italian/Cocobolo just cause you can always get an OM-42. I'm sure it's a spectacular OM but a 40 series dread? Well...you can easily see where I'm going here. Either way you decide is a win/win!

Same here. Those are extraordinary guitars. I have a short scale 000-42 that is one of those guitars I would never part with except under gunpoint, and even then I might not.

Get whichever one sounds the best when you play them is probably the right answer, but if they both sound good I'd lean towards the D40. It would be more unusual. A cocobolo Martin would be interesting, never played one.
