He asks what do you think? My first thought was, another guitar that is going to break my heart.

Excellent Brazilian and I even like the worm holes - gives more character to the wood. Looking forward to seeing this one in the end.

Bruce, always a pleasure to see your build thread for the quality of the woods you use. Your BRW surely is something to see (judging from this last set you have just shown), yet surprisingly it would be your mahogany stash that would be a must see for me. You seem to have an unending supply of beautiful sets. I suspect your maple billets would be another highlight of the visit

I can confirm that spending a day going through Bruce’s wood locker is an amazing experience. Bruce’s wood locker is full of amazing quality of rosewood(s), mahogany(s), maple(s) and a variety of other exotic and domestic wood sets. Feeling differences in weight, stiffness and tap side-by-side beyond what you can see is indeed an an eye opener to players. I had the pleasure of picking the German Spruce top and BRW body sets for the 0-42 that he made for me.

Well Bruce, I like that wood however the customer appears idiosyncratic. I advise a cautious path...

Regarding the worms I suggest we name them: lönngång, Elfhame, and Aalborg

I am the paragon of discretion, whatever that means

I have delivered the 000 as of last Saturday. I expected to see the end buyer's lovely wife, but alas, dealt with Eric Schoenberg instead. Easy to make a silk purse out of that, of course. I have made a page on my website for the guitar with pictures you have not seen here. Check it out if you like. FT-000 page.

Also, I have picked a top for the FT-L00-JB/2. This is, as requested, a Martin Guhl AAA German Spruce top cut a number of years before I got it a number of years ago. New old stock, but I really can't put an absolute figure on it, in other words. I joined it and sanded it and took a picture in the sun to give me some confidence that it would show little or no visible run out, and it does look good to me.

Bruce, I love figuring in wood as much as most, but I will say especially with that BRW set that there is a classic beauty in that. And likely a lot rarer that the wilder stuff we're accustomed to seeing, even though that's pretty much what we have to work with nowadays. So it's great to see a trend with many builds lately toward straight grained, quartersawn backs and sides.

The top plates are equally gorgeous...

My goal over the years of acquiring my wood stash has been to be able to offer a full spectrum of ultimate quality Tonewoods for as long as I would be building. Of course there is no certainty regarding just how long that would be. If I go another ten years at my current pace, which seems unlikely, I will probably not run out of BRW, definitely won't run through my Honduran Mahogany, but will longingly remember the days when I had the most killer Pernambuco the world had ever seen.

I do have more Big Leaf Maple than I expect to use as carving those big back is an ever more daunting task. And yet parting with these beauties for mere money is more than I can bear.

My wife looked up "bear" in the dictionary. That is a broad word!

Here's the top cut to the template, and a closer shot of the rosette that shows off the silk as well as an unfinished surface can.

I got a couple of drops of water on it!

Things in the shop are slow in the "season", and unlike most previous years, I have actually made allowances for that this year! Still, there is some progress on the L00 BRW/Euro guitar. The top is braced, the back is not, and soon I will have pictures to prove it.

For the moment, here is the Amazon back strip:

I have built several L00 s now, perhaps this is my 7th (?), and I have been using my FoxBender equivalent device with an OM bending form, and then pipe bending it to make the difference that an L00 requires. Today I splurged, call it a Christmas gift, and made an L00 specific form! The first side is in there is this very photo:

I have been using this exact device for perhaps 25 years, and have rethought it a few time, which you can probably see evidence of. But it does the job, and I see no reason to make a slicker looking version.

Here is the braced top ready to receive the sides once they are bent:

You probably can't see it, I can't see it myself, but this bracing to top proportional relationship is a radical departure from my norm! I suppose that is like most magic.

Default Merry Christmas to all . . .

If I know what's good for me, I won't be working tomorrow, so wish you the above today.

Yesterday I bent the sides for the L00, including this, the third side piece (of 4) and made the 3rd block as well:

Then I glued the side onto the 3 blocks and today I cut an installed +/-128 peone as I am wont to do:
