Default Using echo for groove support

....or something like that.....

This is my composition, '....but I digress.....', recorded live.

The echo setting that I'm using on the Fishman Loudbox gives a subtle shuffle push to the half time feel.

The time, and amount of echo make all the difference.

Enjoy.

Just a great groove, Howard! Your playing is so distinctive, I'd know it anywhere. Kind of like when you hear JT play just a few bars....you know it's him. Love what you establish with that set up and original tunes,,,, could listen to them all day!!

Nice playing of course. I prefer it natural. That particular echo is a detriment.

Hi Rick,
I certainly admire your tenacity, and love of traditional ways.

I'm sure it's the same reason you questioned my use of chorus & delay when I first posted 'Rumble Strut', the opening track on my 'The Wall Talks' cd.

The fact that I hear the track as 'just sitting there' when done in a purely acoustic fashion, and you don't is what it is: I am, more now than ever, trying to serve the song performance (live or on record), and you're more about serving tradition, and neither is better than the other.

Stick to your guns, always.

Regards,
Howard

No, not tradition considerations. I just like the sound better most of the time and a better sound better serves the music.
Of course "better" is subjective.

I do like good quality reverb (in moderation). I do like the sound of certain acoustic guitar pickups (mainly used to smooth
out the sound and round out the low frequencies).

Rick,
For what it’s worth: There were multiple ceiling mics in that room, and I assume the home owner keeps on for ambient crowd recording. The setting was not as strong as my ear heard the amp.

I still enjoyed the results, especially because I nailed the performance.

Howard, I'm also a big fan of your playing but prefer no effects in intimate settings. However, this track would sound really cool as the background music track in a movie scene. Your music is very alive.

That you did Howard! That must be the best feeling of all.
Personally, I don't mind listening to effected music at all. I don't really dwell on whether it is or not. It has to be done right of course and serve the purpose.
It certainly works here, but knowing you I'm sure you're pretty selective about what to use, and when to use it, or not.

Nice playing! I didn't hear the echo until a minute or so into it, and while it was a nice subtle effect, I think it would have sounded fine without it.

Before I listened I thought you might have been employing some kind of more obvious delay/loop effect, a la John Martyn. (Haven't posted a JM video for some time, so any excuse....)
